Kill Bill se estrenó el año 2003, para aquel entonces Tarantino ya gozaba de una fama precedida por sus obras maestras como Pulp Fiction. La primera vez que vi a La Novia andaba con el escepticismo golpeándome las intenciones. Me habían comentado que la película era una matazón de comienzo a fin, nada comparada con la magnitud de los proyectos anteriores de Quentin. Al ver la película comprobé que aquellos comentarios sobrepasaban el límite de la exageración.

Kill Bill was released in 2003, by then Tarantino already enjoyed a fame preceded by his masterpieces like Pulp Fiction. The first time I saw La Novia I was walking with skepticism hitting my intentions. I had been told that the movie was a slaughter from start to finish, nothing compared to the magnitude of Quentin's previous projects. When I saw the film, I realized that those comments exceeded the limit of exaggeration.

Aunque toda la película basa su premisa en la venganza de una chica que juega con su Katana a no perdonar a nadie, cada escena está orientada a brindar al espectador una aventura con diversos toques de acción y algo de drama al estilo de los samuráis del Japón. Con espadas, pistolas y buenos golpes, y un elenco de primera, Quentin nos muestra el mundo nada alejado de la realidad de los asesinos. Tal vez con toques exagerados, pero con un mensaje que en cualquier banda criminal de nuestra época se sigue al pie de la letra: “Si abandonas, te matamos"

Although the entire film bases its premise on the revenge of a girl who plays with her Katana to not forgive anyone, each scene is aimed at providing the viewer with an adventure with various touches of action and some drama in the style of the samurai of Japan. . With swords, guns and good blows, and a first-rate cast, Quentin shows us the world that is not far from the reality of the murderers. Perhaps with exaggerated touches, but with a message that in any criminal gang of our time is followed to the letter: "If you leave, we will kill you"

La peculiaridad algo extraña pero totalmente convincente de los personajes está bien armada que incluso hay un humor negro metido de fondo, algo normal en las películas de Quentin. The somewhat strange but totally convincing quirk of the characters is well armed that there is even a black humor in the background, something normal in Quentin films. In various scenes you will see The Bride in serious trouble, even fighting with more than fifty swords at the same time, but in others, the unforeseen events will lead her to smile and pretend that she likes to see how they prepare a Sandwich. A lo largo de 2 volúmenes y 10 capítulos (estructuración casi cotidiana en las películas de su creador) Kill Bill nos muestra el lado retórico de lo que supone vengarse. Aquí, la venganza no es un arma de doble filo ni un amargo camino que termita destruyendo a quien lo sigue, por el contrario, es una recompensa que va reparando el alma y desasiendo el dolor, o en síntesis: “la venganza es algo que se disfruta” ¡Y vaya manera de disfrutarla!

Throughout 2 volumes and 10 chapters (almost daily structuring in the films of its creator) Kill Bill shows us the rhetorical side of what it means to take revenge. Here, revenge is not a double-edged sword or a bitter path that ends up destroying those who follow it, on the contrary, it is a reward that repairs the soul and dislodges the pain, or in short: “revenge is something that you enjoy it ”And what a way to enjoy it!

La ironía también está implícita en esta película. Veíamos como una chica abandonaba su vieja profesión de asesina para vivir una “vida normal” y fue sentenciada sin clemencia. Pero poco después, esa misma chica ha vuelto para sentenciar a los verdugos que ahora, tratan de vivir “vidas normales”, cada uno a su manera y por su propia cuenta. Este hecho brinda un mensaje muy claro: “Aunque saques lo clavos, dejarás las marcas.”

The irony is also implicit in this film. We saw how a girl left her old profession as a murderer to live a "normal life" and she was sentenced without mercy. But shortly after, that same girl has returned to sentence the executioners who now try to live "normal lives", each in her own way and on her own account. This fact provides a very clear message: "Even if you remove the nails, you will leave the marks."

La primera película de Kill Bill nos muestra el resurgimiento de La Novia. Ella regresa al mundo que había decidido abandonar, o más bien, es obligada a regresar por sus deseos de venganza. En general me gustó, sobre todo por los recursos que usa el director para mantenernos pegados a la pantalla. Tarantino supo mezclar la cultura americana con la japonesa, al idealizar a sus personajes bajo el estilo samurái, sí, pero al estilo americano. La batalla entre O-Rai y La novia fue realmente espléndida, tanto que me atreví a pensar que Quentin usó toda su potencial en ella. Al final se deja esa ventana abierta que te obliga a no perderte la segunda parte.

The first Kill Bill movie shows us the resurgence of The Bride. She returns to the world that she had decided to leave, or rather, she is forced to return by her desire for revenge. In general I liked it, especially because of the resources that the director uses to keep us glued to the screen. Tarantino knew how to mix the American culture with the Japanese, by idealizing his characters under the samurai style, yes, but in the American style. The battle between O-Rai and The Bride was truly splendid, so much so that I dared to think that Quentin used her full potential on her. In the end, that window is left open that forces you not to miss the second part.

En la segunda película podemos comprender más con totalidad la historia que se esconde detrás de los hechos. Conocemos la vida pasada de La Novia y razón que la obligó a retirarse del escuadrón “Víbora venenosa”. Aquí, la venganza tiene un motivo más profundo, más sentimental. El desenlace final estuvo bien elaborado, dejando todas las cosas en su lugar y haciéndote sentir satisfecho. Fue una venganza, y las venganzas terminan.

In the second film we can understand more fully the story behind the events. We know the past life of La Novia and the reason that forced her to withdraw from the “Venomous Viper” squad. Here, revenge has a deeper, more sentimental motive. The final outcome was well crafted, leaving everything in place and making you feel satisfied. It was revenge, and revenge ends.

Estuvo buena, es una película para pasar un buen rato. Tal vez Tarantino no se fue al recurrente recurso de “enmarcar los sentimientos oscuros de la sociedad” como en Pulp Fiction o incluso Death Proof, pero transmitió de manera escueta esa revancha a la que nos enfrentamos, incluso con nosotros mismos, para llevar la justicia por nuestras propias manos.

It was good, it's a movie to have a good time. Perhaps Tarantino did not go to the recurring resource of "framing the dark feelings of society" as in Pulp Fiction or even Death Proof, but he conveyed in a concise way that revenge that we face, even with ourselves, to bring justice by our own hands.

La Novia, por ejemplo, había sido una asesina letal y despiadada, pero cuando intenta ocultar esa parte de ella termina sentenciándose a sí misma. Nunca olvidaré esa retórica de Superman que el mismo Bill le cita minutos antes del gran desenlace:

The Bride, for example, had been a lethal and ruthless murderer, but when he tries to hide that part of her he ends up sentencing herself. I will never forget that rhetoric of Superman that Bill himself quotes minutes before the great outcome:

“Superman no se convertía en Superman, Superman nació como Superman. Cuando Superman se despierta, es Superman. Su alter ego es Clark Kent. El traje con la “S” roja y grande es la cobija en la que estaba envuelto cuando los Kent lo encontraron. Ésa era su ropa. Lo que Kent usa, los lentes, el traje de ejecutivo, ése es su disfraz.”

“Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born as Superman. When Superman wakes up, he is Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. The suit with the big red "S" is the blanket he was wrapped in when the Kents found him. Those were his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses, the executive suit, that's his costume."

Ella era como Superman, había escondido su instinto asesino bajo el disfraz falso de “una mujer normal”. Pero en su propia venganza ese disfraz se fue rompiendo con cada evento que la llevó a cobrar letalmente lo que le hicieron. Ya no era la chica normal, esa que intentó casarse y tener una familia, ahora podía ser ella misma. Por esto es que Kill Bill me gusta tanto, porque te muestra que aunque intentes esconder lo que realmente eres, siempre hallarás una excusa para darte a conocer.

She was like Superman, she had hidden her killer instinct from her under the false guise of "a normal woman". But in her own revenge that disguise of hers was breaking with each event that led her to lethally charge what they did to her. She was no longer the normal girl, the one who tried to get married and have a family, now she could be herself. This is why I like Kill Bill so much, because it shows you that even if you try to hide who you really are, you will always find an excuse to make yourself known.

Eso espero. Tarantino no descarta la idea, aunque cada vez parece inseguro al respecto. Por ahora solo hay rumores e ideas no consolidadas sobre la tercera parte de Kill Bill. Ojalá logren rodarla, porque me gustaría volver a ver a La Novia blandiendo su Katana.
