Stuck in space: Boeing's Faulty Spacecraft Leaves Astronauts Stranded

in Hot News Community21 days ago

For some time now, this has been the most trending news, so I decided to go through some of its details, which I would love to share today. The headlines are heartbreaking "Suni Williams husband and mother break the silence", "Two astronauts are stranded in space", "Space X begins a rescue mission", how much oxygen is left for these two", and lastly the one that caught my attention today was "how much radiation they have been exposed to", getting stuck in space is common and these two are not the face to be stuck in space because many have been but I think this has been the first of his kind this year.

I am so surprised that a Plan B was not made by Boeing star liner spacecraft and possible malfunctionalities were not analysed and brought forward to bring solution before now and up to you till now these are still out there for a month in a journey that was meant to be a week and a day stay.

The mission was more of an exploratory mission, but they did not go there to fix anything in the International Space Station, which is about 250 miles from the Earth, but to test run-by spacecraft as a crew. It took them about 25 hours to reach the ISS, meaning that on June 6, they arrived, but before they arrived, they experienced several helium leaks and a series of malfunctions, which delayed even their arrival there and would have made them lose connectivity with the station or lose their lives.

WHO ARE THESE STUCKED ASTRONAUTS?

A few you need to know about them

The first astronaut here is Suni Williams (female), an experienced one whose first flight was on December 2026. She has been on a series of flights both for exploratory purposes and to test running spacecraft; she has spent over 300 days, although on a series of travel.

We have here Butch Wilmore and experience one; his first flight was in November 2009, and he has been in space for an exploratory mission known as Expedition 41. These are the few things you need to know about them; you can read about Expedition 41 later.

Some may be wondering why the term tucked in space was used here. For some of us who are not familiar with space travel, I believe before these two astronauts left Earth on June 5, they might have had a schedule and told their families of the mission they were embarking on and the time they were returning. Stuck up here is used because the travel didn't go as planned; an 8-day supposed stay has elongated to a month, and for this month they are not sure of returning until February 2025 following Boeing's attempt to rescue them.

CHANCES OF SURVIVAL

Some may be wondering how they will survive. To our young ones who heard of this, they may ask a series of questions because it may seem like a myth to them, but reading this got you answers.

  • The ISS has a size close to that of a football field, if not equivalent, and has many facilities there: rooms with bathrooms, beds for rest, and a gym room. *Can you imagine? For oxygen supply, that is not a problem because the station has enough oxygen in supply and has a place where carbon dioxide is converted to oxygen and resupplied to the station.
  • For food, there is enough food for them to eat till 2025, and you should understand that these two are not the only ones; there are other astronauts, about 7 others in the station.
  • The system of getting this and other astronauts water will shock you. The space station has a laboratory that converts waste products into water; there the urine and sweat are recycled (if that is the right word) to provide water for the station's residents.

So we are expecting their return next year. I believe if this explanation had been made to Suni's mother, she wouldn't have broken the silence; however, that was necessary to speed up NASA and Boeing's activity.

Do you think Boeing will be entrusted with this chance again? They may be. Space X has been used and has completed several missions. NASA attempted to make Boeing an alternative to Space X so that they could be used interchangeably. It was a nice attempt, and I believe Boeing is working towards modifying and advancing their spacecraft.
