Snico is a sound-based technology. When the ball touches the bat, gloves or pads, a special sound is produced. This sound is captured by the snicko as a wave. The harder or clearer the ball hits the bat or pad, the bigger the wave. However, if no sound is produced, the snicko cannot detect it.

Hot spot technology was not used in the MCG Test. This is because Australia has stopped using this technology in most series since the 2013 Ashes. Hot spots clearly show the place and effect of the ball's touch. But since it is not there in this Test, only snicko is relied on.
