Motorcycle Growth In Indonesia

In some developed countries, the most commonly used means of transportation for work activities is the subway (electric train or the like). Some countries also use taxis and also public transportation such as buses to carry out travel activities. However, for densely populated and developing countries such as Indonesia, the main means of transportation for activities and work is a personal vehicle.
These private vehicles can be both private cars and motorcycles, only some areas of the capital have alternative public transport in addition to the two I mentioned earlier. So it is quite natural that large areas in Indonesia always face an extraordinary traffic jam situation, especially the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta.
The growth of motor vehicles is increasing every year, from year to year the growth rate of motor vehicles, especially motorcycles, has increased quite sharply. This certainly has an impact on the capacity of inadequate transportation infrastructure, so that congestion is inevitable and becomes a common sight that occurs daily.

At least according to official data from the latest Indonesian Central Statistics Agency, the development the number of motor vehicles, especially along with motorcycles in 2022, has increased.

That means that almost half of Indonesia's population 282,477,584 people, almost have a motor vehicle in every home, or 85% of every family has one motorcycle vehicle.
It is interesting for me to know what brands of motorcycles are the most widely used in Indonesia, as far as I know as people who live in Indonesia, maybe Honda is the most widely used brand. Many well-known manufacturer brands enter Indonesia, some of which are Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM, TVS, and Viar. The two most popular brands of motorcycle vehicles are Honda and Yamaha, two well-known Japanese manufacturer trademarks, becoming the main choice of consumers.
From the data sources that I get, the trend of sales of motor vehicles continued to increase in 2023 last year. Millions of vehicles are sold to various regions in Indonesia, and well-known motorcycle brands are preferred. This year in 2024, it looks like Honda still controls the domestic market for motorcycle sales, but it's interesting to see the next up-to-date data. The existence of Honda-branded motorcycles has long been known tough in Indonesia, this may be due to the style and geographical factors that exist in Indonesia.
Every year, all types of motorcycle trademarks in Indonesia innovate and update the design and technology they have, so the motorcycle sales competition in Indonesia is quite large with an incredible number of consumers.

Based on the need for mobility needs that is high enough in the community, as well as affordable prices to buy motorcycles, the use of motorcycles as transportation is the main choice. Not to mention the purchase of this motor vehicle can be done with a monthly credit payment system, up to several years of repayment time. The payment strategy step, further increasing motorcycle sales in Indonesia.

In the end, the two sides are always opposite, the ease of purchasing motor vehicles in Indonesia with the existing sales system. Indirectly increasing the number of motorcycles in Indonesia, on the other hand, the use of more and more will have an impact on congestion caused by the increasing number of motor vehicles, especially motorcycles. Not to mention the road infrastructure that has not been optimally supported by the addition of roads or alternative roads.
