The problem with Trump is that he isn't conservative (at least economically so which is what matters). Trump is certainly better than Biden but so is what's on the bottom of my shoe so it's a pretty low bar... It's hard to say how much the Libertarian party represents libertarians since they don't win elections. They probably do a better job than the other two parties but again...low bar.

And, i would answer you dad, well that seems to be a strong possibility.
The only difference between Trump and other recent presidents is that he is a businessman.
He is about doing things, while most politicians are about kicking the can and looking busy.
As you said, long ago, Trump ran for president as a Dem. Was friends with Hitlery and gang. Like school buds.
But Trump is the only thing holding the Dem party together. Without the, oh no, worst evil ever, the Dems would split into at least three groups.
But, but Trump has split the Rep party in two.
All roads lead to messiness.
But if Trump goes to prison, i think that would have the most ramifications.
