Macro Photography Challenge No 46

In today's Macro Photography Challenge, i will be presenting the Small Orange Acraea, best identified as Acraea serena. This beautiful yellow banded butterfly is a member of the Nymphalidae family.

Description and characteristics

Here are some besic characteristics that describes the Acraea serena butterfly.

Wings:
It has a brightly yellow-orange coloration with black veins and distinctively yellow bands on the hindwings. This distinctive wing patterns makes it very easy to identify the Acraea among other butterflies in the garden.

Body:
The Acraea's body is Black with some kind of yellow-orange markings on it. The markings look more like circles at the abdomen and patches at the thorax. The head has two beautiful antennas which are a little heavier towards it tips.

Size:
An average yellow banded Acraea serena butterfly has a wingspan of approximately 30-40 mm. Most of those i saw were medium to large.

Habitat:
They are found in tropical and subtropical regions, including forests, grasslands, i fiund this one in a garden.

Behavior:
This butterfly is active during the day, feeding on nectar from flowers and puddling in damp soil.

Life cycle:
The Acraea butterfly goes through the complete four stages of metamorphosis. it's life cycle starts as an egg from an adult butterfly, then it hatches into the larva stage, becomes a caterpillar (pupa), finally pops out as an adult butterfly. 🦋

Device Information

All pictures are snapped Using Samsung Galaxy-A15. An android phone with a feature called macro under the more option.

This feature is specifically designed for snapping small objects with great clearity and details. The only problem with this feature is the absence of the zoom finction.
