The third day of my journey through Central Asia.
On the third day of my journey through Central Asia, I boarded a high-speed train from Samarkand to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and it turned out to be quite the experience!
The ticket cost 245,000 Uzbek soums, but the two-hour journey flew by in no time. The train runs at an impressive speed of 230-260 km/h, smooth and swift. Inside, they even offered free tea and cake, and all the attendants were friendly young men. The most surprising part? There’s no ticket check when you leave the station—it’s all based on trust, a true “trust society” vibe.
I heard that the train itself was imported from Spain, while the tracks were locally made in Uzbekistan. Sitting on the train, it felt like a unique blend between the sleekness of a modern high-speed train and the nostalgia of an old-fashioned green train. As the landscape whizzed by, vast plains and towering mountains unfolded like scenes from a Central Asian movie.
The journey continues, but this train ride is definitely going to be one of the most unforgettable highlights of the trip.
