RE: 💨 A Lot of Hot Air (and Another Dodgy Moderator)
The time has come for me to close my element of this contest. Along the way, we've received many terrible guesses and so far, very few prizes have been distributed. Only @chriddi made me laugh although credit really goes to ChatGPT for its Diary Game style entry. A few others made me smile but that wasn't enough.
Few seemed interested in this part of the contest where STEEM could have been earned so easily. Use of words like Arse, Anus, Rectum or anything else vaguely (or extremely) rude would almost certainly have tickled me.
For the 3 STEEM prize, my initial thought was that #aagr meant "And Another Good Result" and this was the required answer to have won the 3 STEEM..
My main uncertainty being whether the 'g' was 'good' or 'great' as implied in this comment.
The Gadolinium Dioxide clue quickly answered this - Gadolinium having the chemical symbol "Gd" and Dioxide being O2. For anybody who Google'd "Gadolinium Dioxide", you'll have see that Google corrected it to "Gadolinium Oxide", making the Dioxide more obvious. Gd + oo equating to Good.
Whilst looking at each clue, I found a way to make them support my initial answer. The end of the Gadolinim clue containing this emjoi - 🧪 - which suggests a test. In my mind, confirming the use of "result".
Whilst others ignored these clues and my not so subtle reply, @dove11 caused a rethink of the 'R', with 'Report' looking like an excellent option.
"And Another Good Report"
Makes a lot of sense, which is probably why @dexsyluz came to this conclusion too.
But that's not where I landed.
Then, we got:
I've thought about this FOR HOURS! It's kept me awake at night. I should be able to get it and so far, I've refused to give up.
"Who came out in first place?" initially linked to "What would the RESULT be?" But I don't think it is. Instead, I believe we're talking anagrams.
The choice of words of being the entire "ROMAN FIRST LEGION" suggests these letters are involved. Separating the left side of the equation, "A company" could be referred to as "A corporation" and "US Marines" are often referred to as the "US Marine Corp". Excluding letters from each side and trying to figure out if the "Who would come out in first place" suggested the removal of letters left me messing about with letters for ages. I couldn't quite get there.
Then the clue which made me change my final answer:
Maybe The Royals will finish in the top four next time...
Again, I initially thought that this would be a "Good RESULT" but top 4? Why Top 4? The top 2 get promoted automatically so maybe it's a Baseball reference for Kansas City Royals? No. Top 2 as well.
For those that aren't aware, The Royals aren't just "The Royals". They're "The Mighty, Mighty Royals" and few on Steemit probably know the link to me, and the football team I support. Of course, this was where my mind went upon first reading - nothing to do with a Royal Family but my football team. Reading FC.
I don't know what @remlaps said to get me there, but the 4 made sense now. Not just the 4th letter, but the first 4 letters. "Read". #apwr = A Post Worth Reading.
No idea what Jodie Foster's got to do with anything 😉
So here I am, my final answer:
"And Another Good Read"
There was a reference/hint to Pennsylvania - probably to the city Reading and the Ice Hockey team Reading Royals.
Good try, but I do like herrings for breakfast...
#askjodie
I wish I could talk to her directly but you made me watch her movie 'Contact' today. She was wearing a blue ring which is a photo of Earth.
So, you like 'her ring'?
I'm going crazy. 🤯
The w3w location you shared (please tell me it was that) - I googled for hours what's 'Wesy Perry Pennsylvania' has to do with 'The Royals'. It turned out Mehgan Markle's dad went to school there and he is the descendant of King Edward III.
I was happy with this royal link despite the fact it was far-fetched. Then @the-gorilla steered everything towards sports which made me think of 'Reading Royals.'
I'm not ready to watch another movie. Just reveal the answer. 😢
I should delete this now. 🤣
I voted on it and have now replied so you can't delete it 😝
Haha. It was rhetorical thought. I commented too.
It should stay here as a proof showing how much I tortured my poor brain for your contest and sc01's enjoyment. 😀
Don’t give up yet - some clues still need solving! Although i’ve lost track of which ones!
I think we've all been driven crazy by this!
My head is hurting but I can sleep peacefully now. 😁
Congratulations on winning your contest. 😅
I’m not sure it was ever my contest really 😉
You started the fire. 😛
🤔 You've got me there.
And I agree it was another good read for sure!
A very worthy exploration - almost there but not quite.
2 out of 4.
You maybe missed the last clue where the answer is hidden in plain sight...
Jodie will be able to help with this one...
Always A Good Read
Unfortunately, I'm disqualified for breaking my new rule of "1 guess per day".
If it's wrong, I quit. I quit life itself. It will lose all meaning. Even if it's wrong, you've now got to say it's right because you don't want that on your conscience do you?
We have a winner 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Always A Good Read
Bonus votes for anyone, other than @the-gorilla, who can reverse engineer any of the unsolved clues...
Very kind of you to say so 🙂
It was fun - you've got quite a talent for cryptic puzzles! It'd be nice if one day, you set yourself up with a sneaky account away from the demands of being a curator. Having said that, posting with the wrong key makes it a risk that's not worth taking
It genuinely kept me awake though - I'm still determined to get the Marines v. Romans clue.
Is #macftus Round 2?
Congratulations, @the-gorilla, for finally decoding this hashtag and winning your own contest! 😆
I think the "Marines vs. Romans" clue had to do with the word "always," because, as you know, if they were to fight, the Marines would always win.
We won't tell yet on this clue.
In fact we'll put a 20% vote bounty to mottovate people to keep trying...
Wow, you really are up to something...
We are cooking up a different format for Round 2...
#flashquiz
If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, then I like where this is going. AI is appalling at any kind of puzzle.
This was fun.
Who wants to do it again sometime soon...?
Un acertijo que dejó sin dormir a todos por aquí, antes de la siguiente ronda necesito practicar mi inglés y "leer" más 😂🙈
We might try something different for the next #flashquiz...
#flashquiz sounds good. It's a nice way to pass the time ... if it's really quick ;-)) ... ah, I've already discovered it, I'll switch across :-)
.Go ahead, go ahead, this gets us out of the routine.
Let's the games begin...
You just need to connect the dots to get started 😉
#flashquiz 001
Felicitaciones @the-gorilla estas arrasando, te estas llevando todo, eres como un tornado que no deja nada jajajajajaja.
Hey, congratulations! Boom! So that was the solution. :-))
Very tricky!
We got there in the end! I wonder what level of arrogance would’ve been required for me to have thought of this at the beginning!
Jodie Foster - Not seen it but she plays Anna in "Anna and the king".
Japanese Yen weighs a gram.
Annagram... Anagram

You can never go wrong with Jodie Foster 😎
I looked through her IMDB page and I’ve only seen a handful of her movies (probably the obvious ones + Panic room). Now that you mention it, the ones I’ve seen are all decent.
I’m impressed by her language skills - she’s got about 50% of the planet (land mass only) covered with them!
Great.
Still catching up huh?
I caught up today 🙂
Of course. Never forget the top Steemit rule: you must attract attention with high-quality comments.
Am I doing something wrong? Please teach me, sir. 😇
