Yanbul's Regrets
Chapter One:- Blessing or Curse

Long ago, during the time of the Great Change, in the village of Yanbul , there lived a poor couple. This couple, although poor ; had a kind and generous nature . They were farmers , and they grew such crops as Yam, Maize and Groundnuts. They also reared poultry. Their names were Peter and Paulina.

Land in Yanbul was very expensive and poor Peter could not afford to buy a fertile piece of land. In fact , their non-fertile farmland was rented and not bought. Due to the poor farm soil, Peter's crops never produced succulent and big fruits. Despite all the challenges, Peter and Paulina were not irritated or angry. They were always kind and hospitable and they were loves by all their fellow farmers.

Nevertheless, under the smiling faces of Peter and Paulina hid a grief and heartache they had endured during their over 30 years of marriage; they had no child . Peter and Paulina had tried all they could but they couldn't have a child.

There were only two families in the entire Yanbul village in such a baren and childless situation. The first of the two families was poor; it was Peter's family. The second family, however , was wealthy. It was the family of Mr. Samuel and Mrs. Samuel. They had been married for 35 years and yet they had no children.

The two families always comforted and helped one another cope. Things changed however. One day, God turned his attention to Paulina and she got pregnant. When Peter got to know it, he was excited. Paulina then said :" Let's make it a surprise for the villai. Let's go away to my village 'til I deliver then we return.". Peter liked the idea so he placed his farms under the care of his cousin, John and with his wife, set oit for Yunsha - his wife's village.

 ***10 Months Later***

Paulina and Peter returned to Yanbul with a baby boy in their arms. The entire village erupted in happiness, surprise, excitements and celebrations. Everyone, including the wealthy, came to congratulate and make merry with Peter and Paulina.

While everyone was rejoicing, Mrs. Samuel was unhappy as she was still without a child. She began hating Paulina very much.

The baby was named Jack. Unbeknownst to all, Jack was not an ordinary baby; he had a super body constitution. Even as a baby, he could remember everything that happened around him clearly. He also had a superpower. His eyes had three purple dots hidden in his eyes. The 3 dots granted him 3 super abilities. He could move objects with his eyes, he could tame every animal by staring at it in the eye and the third dot contained a seperate space where he could keep animals and other things.

Three days later, while Jack was being carried by his mother through the village spuare , he spotted the sparkling gems on the wrist of the statue of the god of Yanbul . He jumped off his mother's back and grabbed the gem. Paulina was shocked and screamed in her mind: "Noooo!". She pulled him back and scampered away. However , there was an old man named Lazir in the bushes nearby who saw what had happened. He set off to tell the village king.

In Yanbul touching the statue of the god was a grave sin punishable by death. Not even the chief priest dared to touch it. However, Jack was just a baby and had no idea.

When Lazir reached the king's palce , he said to the chief: " My highness, ma you live on forever. But my highness, the statue of the great god has been desecrated by Paulina and her son Jack." "Whattt!", the king screamed, " How dare she!". The king motioned to one of his guards ," Go and assemble my chiefs and the wealthy family heads. This matter must be sealed today."

 ***Minutes Later***

The chiefs and family heads had all assembled. The king rold them what happened. Lazir and a few other family heads and chiefs said :" Their entire family should be killed as stipulated in our law". Some family heads cried out :" Nooo! How could that be? Jack is just a baby!". Mrs. Samuel was present , she fanned the flames saying: " Baby or not a baby, the law must be obeyed!". A number of chiefs supported her. In the end, it was decided that Jack's entire family be killed.

One of Peter's friends , Dere, was a chief and was present at the meeting. He was appalled at the decision of the king but there was nothing he could do. He decided to inform Peter ahead of time and see if there was a way to preserve the baby at least. That evening Dere went to Peter's humble home.

Peter, on seeing his friend, ran to greet him and jokingly said: " Chief Dere, what brings you to the home of this lowly servant?". Dere sighed and said: " My dear friend, I am bringing a ver bad news to you. I am afraid this will be our last conversation!". Peter froze, " what how can that be, you are not that old are you? ". Dere proceeded to explain to Peter and Paulina what had happened. Paulina and Peter wept bitterly. They decided they must save their child no matter what.

Jack was put in a water tight basket and set adrift on a nearby river. Paulina wept as she saw the basket containing her only child drift away. That night , as they slept, the king's guards and soldiers swarmed onto Peter's house and farms . They set everything ablaze. Peter and Paulina died together.

However, Jack had escaped the disaster unbeknownst to all except Dere. As Jack drifted off in the basket, he swore in his mind to take revenge on his parents killers.
