Short Review of the book by me :

Liesel Meminger is nine years old and suffering from the death of her brother and separation from her mother. Hans and Rosa Hubermann teach her how to read, and she grows close to Hans and Rudy Steiner. Ilsa Hermann invites Liesel into her library, which she finds beautiful. Max Vandenburg, a Jew, is hiding in a storage closet and receiving help from Walter Kugler. To keep Max safe, Hans offers to hide him in his basement and sends him the key to his house hidden in a copy of Hitler's Mein Kampf.

Liesel and Rudy join a gang of youths who steal apples and potatoes, earning her title of book thief. They take shelter in the Fiedlers' basement, where Liesel reads from The Whistler to calm them. Liesel sees the suffering of Jews in Molching, and Hans and Alex Steiner are punished for their actions.

Rosa gives Liesel a book called The Word Shaker, which contains Max's stories, thoughts, and sketches. Liesel becomes angry with Max's words, and Frau Hermann gives her a black journal to write her own story. Death finds and takes Liesel's book, The Book Thief, and they spend a lot of time together, going for walks and hiking to Dachau.

What I learn from this book?

1. Words Have Strength: It's possible that Shakespeare wrote in his sonnets that words are more powerful than anything else in the universe because they can never be erased. But you must read the tale of the little German girl who became known as "The Book Thief" due to her insatiable curiosity in the vast and enigmatic world of books.

Her love of writing kept her alive even after bombs destroyed her house and murdered her loved ones. Her passion for language ultimately gave her the opportunity to share her tale with the world. She used them to express her sorrow, release pent-up emotions, and ultimately console a homeless Jew.

2. You make a promise with someone , you must keep it : Hans Hubermann, a foster parent whose son fought bravely for the Nazis, is depicted in the novel as harbouring a Jewish man in his basement. He had a vow to uphold, but instead, he gambled on it and protected the Jew at the risk of his own and his family's lives. He was honorable and stuck to his pledge because he was honorable.

3. Friendship is not always based on similarity of status : Liesel, also known as the Book Thief, had a strong friendship with Max, a Jew sheltering in her basement, despite Hitler's propaganda that Jews were inferior to Germans. They talked about their hopes and stories, and Liesel never saw any significant differences between them. He was like a brother to her; they were both aimless wanderers. Max gave Liesel a blank copy of Hitler's book, Mein Kampf, for her to record her own tale in.

4. Appreciating the little things in life: Jewishness was a part of Max Vandenburg's identity. Even while in hiding, being Jewish in Nazi Germany was a dangerous proposition. He was unable to leave the house, examine the windows, or even explore the basement.

Why? Seeing him would result in the loss of Liesel's family as well as his own deportation to a concentration camp. At that moment, he fully appreciated the benefits of a refreshing wind, the comfort of standing in the sun, and the stability of snow. He learned the worth of the things he had previously disregarded when Liesel built a snowman for him in the basement.
