RE: [Popular STEM] Curating the Internet: STEM digest for February 20, 2021

the arrival on Mars of the Perseverance rover, a robot that will search for traces of extinct organisms in the Jezero crater of the red planet, where astrobiologists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena (California) believe that there may have been life in the past. If he can prove it, the milestone of showing that Earth is not unique or special and that other planets can also support life would be reached.

Also on board the Perseverance rover is the SuperCAM instrument, whose scientific team includes the participation of researchers from the Institute of Geosciences (IGEO), the CSIC and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). SuperCAM will remotely analyze rocks and soils on Mars, using a camera, two lasers and four spectrometers, in order to detect organic compounds that could be related to life. Likewise, it is capable of identifying the mineralogical and chemical composition of geological outcrops at a distance of more than seven meters.

The advancement of technology is going by leaps and bounds ... this robot is capable of transmitting the sounds of the environment on the planet Mars to the earth.
