He was born in Holland, today the Netherlands, and his landscape compositions are recognized for the influence that he exerted in the 16th century on other artists of the time. He trained within the Flemish School and was a master of landscape because he was a “pure” landscape painter. In his panoramic shots, the landscape was the protagonist of the work and not the background of a scene.

However, four clear periods can be determined in the course of his works: the landscape, works where real-life characters are in the foreground, the seasons of the year as a way of presenting nature and the last stage with outstanding characters. on a landscape, this now as the background of the work.

He was influenced by Renaissance painters, like many of his time, however he made his difference by painting the real proportions of the bodies, for example as occurs in peasants and people, in their daily activities, breaking in some way the perfection of the figures that were painted at that time.

Something that also attracted attention were his works linked to social protest that are part of our art history. The famous satire of “The combat between Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma” which is nothing more than a criticism of the Lutheran Protestant Reformation.

He was accepted as a Master in the Antwerp painters' guild in 1551. He died in Belgium, Brussels, in 1569. Due to the impression of his year of birth, there is no certainty about his years of life, which could have been between 39 - 43 years. . Already in bed, he ordered the burning of the most subversive drawings he made to protect his family from political or religious persecution.

Although his work is found in the largest Museums in the World, they only represent 45 paintings.

Below we will present three of his works so that you can choose the one that most motivates you to write. The first is called: "Census in Bethlehem" (1566) (Does anyone see where Mary and Joseph are?), the second, "Hunters in the Snow" (1565) and the last, * "The peasant wedding"* (1566-1569).
