Su mentor Varley lo presentó al mecenas y coleccionista Dr. Thomas Monro y con él se desarrolló en el arte pictórico junto a otros jóvenes artistas. Fue invitado a la casa del médico en Adelphi Terrace en las noches de invierno y a su casa de campo en Bushey donde, por cierto, realizó bocetos y dibujos al aíre libre que fueron encantadores.

Hunt fue un acuarelista prolífico convirtiéndose en miembro Asociado de la Sociedad de pintores en Acuarelas y luego en miembro de la Real Sociedad de Acuarelas. Para John Ruskin, Hunt fue el “mejor pintor de naturaleza muerta de todos los tiempos”.

Su obra puede apreciarse en varias colecciones públicas como en el Museo Victoria y Alberto, así como en la Galería de Arte Whitworth, la Galería de Arte y Museo Higgins, el Museos de Bellas Artes de San Francisco y la Sociedad Real de Acuarela, entre muchos otros lugares.

Murió de una apoplejía en 1864 dejando un gran legado con sus 765 obras exhibidas durante su periodo más activo en la ciudad de Londres.

For this 73rd edition of "Art and Writing" the guest will be the British painter William Henry Hunt.

The London painter was born on March 28, 1790 and was a great watercolorist. He dedicated himself to portraits of children, still lifes and images of birds' nests. Since he was little he had motor problems so he could have been considered crippled and not good for rough work or for the men of the time. Hence, at the age of 16 he convinced his father to become an apprentice to the painter John Varley. In 1808 he began his studies at the Royal Academy and devoted himself to painting.

His mentor Varley introduced him to the patron and collector Dr. Thomas Monro and with him he developed pictorial art along with other young artists. He was invited to the doctor's house in Adelphi Terrace on winter nights and to his country house in Bushey where, incidentally, he made plein air sketches and drawings which were delightful.

Hunt was a prolific watercolorist becoming an Associate Member of the Society of Painters in Watercolors and later a Fellow of the Royal Society of Watercolors. For John Ruskin, Hunt was the “greatest still life painter of all time.”

His work can be seen in several public collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as the Whitworth Art Gallery, the Higgins Art Gallery and Museum, the San Francisco Museums of Fine Arts, and the Royal Watercolor Society, among many. other places.

He died of a stroke in 1864 leaving a great legacy with his 765 works exhibited during his most active period in the City of London.
