El primer artista invitado del mes de abril es Daniel Kidgway Knight.

Daniel Kidgway Night nació el 15 de marzo de 1839 en un pequeño pueblo de Pensilvania. Su familia pertenecía a la burguesía provincial de Estados Unidos.

A los 22 años viajó a París a estudiar pintura en la Ecole des Beaux-Arts de París. Trabajó en el estudio privado de Meissonier.

En el año 1863, cuando tenía 24 años regresó a los Estados Unidos. Para esa época había estallado la guerra civil en Estados Unidos, lo cual lo motivó a alistarse en el Ejército de la Unión, pero nunca dejó de practicar la pintura.

En Estados Unidos conoció a Rebecca Morris, quien se convirtió en su esposa. Ambos tuvieron dos hijos: Charles Meissonier Knight y Louis Aston Knight, este último pintor de paisajes.

A los 33 años regresó a Francia y se dedicó por completo a la pintura, siendo su tema preferido la vida rural francesa de finales del siglo XIX e inicios del XX.

En el año 1882 obtuvo su primera distinción en el Salón de París con la obra Un Deuil (Un duelo). En el año 1889 fue nombrado Caballero de la Real Orden de San Miguel de Barrera, en Munich. Además recibió de parte de la Academia de Pensilvania de Bellas Artes, la Medalla de oro de honor, en el año 1893.

Falleció el 9 de marzo de 1924, a los 85 años, en París.

Daniel Kidgway Night was born on March 15, 1839 in a small town in Pennsylvania. His family belonged to the provincial bourgeoisie of the United States.

At the age of 22, he traveled to Paris to study painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked in Meissonier's private studio.

In 1863, when he was 24 years old, he returned to the United States. By that time the civil war had broken out in the United States, which motivated him to enlist in the Union Army, but he never stopped practicing painting.

In the United States he met Rebecca Morris, who became his wife. They both had two sons: Charles Meissonier Knight and Louis Aston Knight, the latter a landscape painter.

At the age of 33, he returned to France and devoted himself entirely to painting, his favorite subject being French rural life at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.

In 1882 he obtained his first distinction at the Paris Salon with the work Un Deuil (A duel). In 1889 he was named Knight of the Royal Order of San Miguel de Barrera, in Munich. He also received the Gold Medal of Honor from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1893.

He died on March 9, 1924, at the age of 85, in Paris.
