Mary was the daughter of the village chief and was famous for her beauty. Although Mary was loved by many of the boys in that village, one of her cousins, David was confident that she would marry him. He believed Mary loved him as well. However, David was unaware that Mary had already fallen in love with James, a young, kind, and handsome man from a simple family. Because Mary's father was a village chief, James was hesitant to tell Mary that he loved her too.

Mary's father liked to see Mary and Lionel get married because he was his blood. Therefore, Mary's father allowed Lionel to take his daughter, Mary, on a short journey one evening to strengthen their bond. Lionel was very happy and thought this was the ideal opportunity to propose to her.

At the very moment they stepped out of the house, Lionel decided to speak about his love, as he was in such a rush. "Mary," Lionel said proudly in a whisper, "I need to tell you something important."

Mary guessed what was coming, smiled, and said, “What is it, Lionel?”

Lionel grinned widely and remarked, "I suppose it's time for us to plan our future together."

Our future? What are you getting at? Mary's eyebrows went up as she answered.

"Indeed, our marriage," Lionel replied confidently.

Mary was furious; she had to respond right away. However, she had no desire to marry him. She acted as though she thought it was a joke. Mary stopped laughing. “Oh, Lionel, that’s so sweet. But I’ve always wanted to marry someone who doesn’t snore.”

Lionel was confused. “I don’t snore!”

Mary laughed, “Lionel, the entire community is aware that you are doing so. Even your neighbors have complained to my dad about it.”

Lionel’s face turned red. He thought that Mary was kidding, so he tried again. “Well, snoring is not everything; see how matching we are.”

James showed up at that moment with a basket of fruits, and when he saw them all together, he became upset. Mary, too, felt helpless and didn't want to hide her desire.

With bravery, Mary said, "James! Thank you for bringing me some fruits. Lionel and I were just talking about my future husband. I'm honored to show him my future partner; will you please join us?”

James stuttered, “Uh... fruits?”

Lionel looked at Mary and then at James. “Wait, is he the one you love?”

With a bright smile, Mary answered, “Yes, Lionel. Isn’t he perfect? He is incredibly considerate and doesn’t snore!”.

With a sarcastic glance at Mary, Lionel walked out. James and Mary started laughing. Lionel never again crossed paths with a fruit basket or loved ones after that day!
