RE: 💥 Booming Upvote Information - February
It is useful information but it does not really reflect much. As you remember:
- the users who deserve Upvote could be voted max 2 a week.
Therefore, seeing the data it is good we know that the best users are receiving support but it does not mean that the bad posts were submitted.
I am just concerned that there could be some people could interpret the information wrongly and start witch-hunt.
I tried to position the post in such a way as to avoid this and as you say, nothing in here is intended to suggest that the authors who receive the highest number of upvotes don't deserve it.
I'm happy to tweak how the information is displayed (within the parameters of my coding ability) - I considered removing users who have received fewer votes and then decided that if people see the wide range of users being upvoted, this can only be positive so I left it.
However (as you say), there are rules that come with booming and this will highlight when these rules have been "challenged". It also allows those that perceive there to be a bias or favouring of certain users to have this information verified, or invalidated.
There have been numerous comments about how some communities are abusing their booming privilege to fill their own pockets. If there are such users and they become aware that a post like this is being published then perhaps they will think twice and we'll slowly get the upvotes to the people more deserving.
The community has been longing for some transparency, this will hopefully provide some.
I also hope that others follow your lead in leaving a comment on posts that have been nominated. There is a distinct lack of trust on the platform at the moment (dare I say, for obvious reasons) and I hope this will be the first (potentially painful) step in restoring some.
It's probably worth adding that my intention was to provide ultimate transparency and include links to each upvoted post. Then people can see the level of quality for themselves and perhaps decide to improve the quality of their posts in line with what other people are doing.
Unfortunately, there are over 5,000 upvotes and Steemit restricts how long a post can be so the links could not be included.
Agree, the transparency is one of the the most important things in Curation. We all know how does it feel, we see mostly what we have or have not but we do not see that from the point of view of others.
To play according the rules that is another important condition to make everyone satisfied.
That was a reason why when we nominating for Curation we leave the note about that. But also that was a reason why I asked Axeman to add Booming channel in our discord so that other Moderators see what is nominated.
It is easy to be tempted having an opportunity of nominating but also the keys for Curation accounts, that is very human.
Hopefully with your information the people who trying to trick out the system will know that nothing is completely hidden in Internet and if someone who knows how and what to search can easily find it.
