OIL IN THE LAMP
Text: “And five of them were wise... the wise took oil in their lamps.” Matt 25:2, 5
The scripture above is extracted from the account of the ten virgins. This account is clearly stated as a representation of what we see in the kingdom of God.
These particular five virgins had oil in their lamps. The human spirit is actually referred to as the candle of the Lord where fire is ignited in our lives. The lamp or the candle does not burn by itself; there must be a constant supply of the oil for it to keep burning. Once the oil is gone the light goes out.
The oil represents the fresh anointing of the Spirit in our lives. God expects that we keep the oil flowing at all times in our lives. The oil or the unction is extremely needed when we are faced with challenges in our lives. We have to keep the oil fresh because we can never tell when there will be a need for it. Obviously each day comes with its unique demands and the only way we can effectively handle such demands is to be fully equipped by the anointing of the Spirit. The wise wakes up every day to renew the anointing of the Spirit in their lives. Whatever they are required to do they ensure that they don’t do it casually; they do it through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
The more “oil” we have in our vessels the better equipped and prepared we are to face the demands of life. If you are going for an assignment in your office ensure that there is “oil” in your lamp before you go. Before you go for a job interview take time to check the level of your “oil” and ensure that it’s fresh. The challenges of life will turn you back if there is no oil in your lamp. The seven sons of Sceva wanted to cast a demon out of a man that was possessed. They never knew that they needed “oil” in their vessels to make such a demand. Renew the level of your “oil” daily.
PRAYER:
Lord I ask for fresh oil of your Spirit over my life on a daily basis. I declare that my head will never lack oil.
