Parable of the 10 virgins
A parable is the similarity of a story in the natural world with a description of something that belongs to the spiritual world, the illustration facilitates the understanding of what is taught, Jesus frequently used this system to educate the crowds.
The Lord Jesus will return soon he does not come for all the people he comes for his Church, the parable of the 10 virgins explains how we should be ready for his return by comparing 5 wise young women and another 5 reckless in the use of lamps on and oil reserve.
Five maidens are called prudent for taking the time to prepare bottles of extra oil in order to have enough and not to lack, the oil is necessary to keep the lamps lit during the darkness of the night, they were invited to the celebration of a wedding and awaiting the arrival of the groom to go to celebrate with him.
The other five girls brought lamps, but they did not bother to arrange complementary portions of oil, that is why they are defined as reckless because they were not ready for any contingency.
The groom was late in arriving, so the lamps with little oil began to go out due to the lack of care shown by the reckless, they did not want to make an effort to obtain more oil, they observe the provision of the prudent girls and decide to take the easier route to go to them to borrow to solve the problem.
The prudent young women were also wise, they did not part with the supply and advised that they go and buy oil so that none of the 10 would lack.
The negligent young women went to buy oil when they returned to find that they had left, that they had lost the opportunity because of their folly. The groom came and took the prepared girls with him to the party who were waiting for him with lighted lamps.
To be like the prudent young women who wait carefully prepared for the return of Christ, it is necessary to know God the Father and Jesus Christ as indicated in verse 12 of the key quote in the book of Matthew, knowledge adds to our life a reward he promises give us all things that belong to life and godliness as the Bible says in the book of 2 Peter 1: 3 As all things that belong to life and godliness have been given to us by his divine power, through knowledge of the one who called us by his glory and excellence.
Being ready also requires being a practitioner of the fruits of the Holy Spirit this habit transforms our life to make it spiritual, as the Bible teaches in the book of Galatians 5: 22-25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
23 meekness, temperance; against such things there is no law.
24 But those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
These are the things that represent the oil that keeps burning the lamps that illuminate our lives, enabling us to go with Christ when he returns for his Church.
God himself helps us to live the spiritual life according to his will so that we can always be ready because we do not know the day or the hour of his return.
