Text: Proverbs 24:1-14
The place of wisdom, knowledge and understanding runs through the passage. While each plays a definite role, they are interwoven. Notice the important roles wisdom (v.3) and knowledge (v.4) play in the home. Power and strength in daily life as well as adverse situation can be attributed to wisdom and understanding (v.2). Compare this with Hosea 4:6. We need these values even in greater measure today. The church is built on the wisdom of God which is Christ. The Scripture reminds us that He is the only sure foundation upon which we can build - our for eternity (1 Corinthians 3:11).

Wisdom in this passage also teaches one not to be involved or closely associate with evil doers. It is always easier to pull down than to pull up as gravity is against you. Our friends determine not just how people view us but how we behave as well. The spiritually wise seeks strength from the Lord and the knowledge acquired leads to increased strength. The more we grow in Christ, the more we receive the grace to discern who our friends should be and those who we do not need to associate with closely. We can always turn to God for strength - spiritual and even physical.
