One of the great tragedies of this time is the loss of the notion of sin due to ignorance of the Word of God. Relativism seems to dominate the current scene and moral truth is no longer, for many, the measure of God but rather the measure of men, therefore what was previously understood as a transgression of God's law, today Today's societies, turning their backs on God, count it as something normal, relativizing it and / or qualifying it at the convenience of capital, power, political agendas or personal interests. An example of this is intrauterine murder (abortion), deviant sexual behaviors, the practice of euthanasia (murder with or without consent), consumption of recreational drugs, etc ...

    Christians are called to be the salt and light of the world (Mt 5: 13-16), that is, vehicles, carriers and preachers of the Word of God in witness of Christian life, torches of truth and hope in Christ Jesus, life in the midst of a world that unfortunately seems to want to embrace the culture of death more and more every day. But how can we become torches of truth and hope in Christ Jesus? The Lord tells us clearly in John 8, 31-32:

" If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

    Are we true disciples of Christ or do we allow ourselves to be carried away by the currents of the world? Staying in the Word means searching for it, reflecting on it and, above all, putting it into practice with fidelity, giving internal testimony (in thinking and feeling) and external (in saying and doing). Staying in the Word implies being constant in the willingness to learn the moral and spiritual truths of which Christ speaks to us, in the same way, remaining in the Word is to remain in Christ who is the Incarnate Word, the Word of God made flesh ( Jn 1,14); way, truth and life (Jn 14, 6).

    The knowledge and implementation of Christian truths, that is, of the teachings of Jesus, keeps us from the slavery of sin that only brings with it death, destruction, degeneration, depression, apathy, indifference, misery, etc ... If today's societies stopped turning their backs on God and decided to listen and follow God's truth, which is Christ, the world would be freed from many evils and sufferings that have their cause in sin.

    For our part, Christians must remain faithful to Christ and not to the currents of the world; fulfill the prophetic function of denouncing and rejecting sin; live and proclaim the Gospel which is God's gift to humanity; promote the culture of life and encounter, which is nothing other than the culture of love. Let us therefore be the salt and light of the world proclaiming the truths of the Gospel, may the truth set us free.

    Una de las grandes tragedias de este tiempo es la pérdida de la noción del pecado por el desconocimiento de la Palabra de Dios. El relativismo parece dominar la escena actual y la verdad moral ya no es, para muchos, a la medida de Dios sino más bien a la medida de los hombres, por tanto lo que antes era entendido como una transgresión a la ley de Dios, hoy, las sociedades actuales, dándole la espalda a Dios, lo cuentan como algo normal, relativizándolo y/o lo matizándolo a conveniencia del capital, del poder, de agendas políticas o de intereses personales. Ejemplo de esto, por citar algunos, el asesinato intrauterino (aborto), las conductas sexuales desviadas, la practica de la eutanasia (asesinato con o sin consentimiento), el consumo de drogas recreativas, etc...

    Los cristianos estamos llamados a ser la sal y la luz del mundo (Mt 5, 13-16), es decir, vehículos portadores y predicadores de la Palabra de Dios en testimonio de vida cristiana, antorchas de verdad y de esperanza en Cristo Jesús, vida en medio de un mundo que lamentablemente cada día más parece querer abrazar la cultura de la muerte. Pero ¿Cómo podemos llegar a ser antorchas de verdad y de esperanza en Cristo Jesús? El Señor nos lo dice claramente en Juan 8, 31-32:

"Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos; y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres".

    ¿Somos verdaderos discípulos de Cristo o nos dejamos arrastrar por las corrientes del mundo? Permanecer en la Palabra significa buscar de ella, reflexionarla y, sobretodo, ponerla en practica con fidelidad, dando testimonio interior (en el pensar y en el sentir) y exterior (en el decir y en el hacer). Permanecer en la Palabra implica ser constantes en la disposición de aprender las verdades morales y espirituales de las que Cristo nos habla, de igual manera, permanecer en la Palabra es permanecer en Cristo que es el Verbo encarnado, la Palabra de Dios hecha carne (Jn 1, 14); camino, verdad y vida (Jn 14, 6).

    El conocimiento y la puesta en práctica de las verdades cristianas, es decir, de las enseñanzas de Jesús, nos guarda de la esclavitud del pecado que solo trae consigo muerte, destrucción, degeneración, depresión, apatía, indiferencia, miseria, etc... Sí las sociedades actuales dejaran de estar de espaldas a Dios y decidieran escuchar y seguir la verdad de Dios, que es Cristo, el mundo se libraría de muchos males y sufrimientos que tienen su causa en el pecado.

    Por nuestra parte, los cristianos debemos seguir siendo fieles a Cristo y no a las corrientes del mundo; cumplir con la función profética de denunciar y rechazar el pecado; vivir y proclamar el Evangelio que es don de Dios para la humanidad; promover la cultura de la vida y del encuentro que no es otra cosa que la cultura del amor. Seamos pues, la sal y la luz del mundo proclamando las verdades del Evangelio; que la verdad nos haga libres.
