Primero que nada Saludarle y desearles que tenga un feliz maravilloso día a todas las personas. Felicitar a todos y todas los integrantes de esta ilustre comunidad cristiana e invitarles para que todos juntos nos coloquemos en comunión con nuestro padre celestial.

Jesús habla de una "generación perversa". Su palabra es muy dura. Pero no se refiere a las personas que lo seguían con mucho amor, sino a los doctores de la ley que trataban de probarlo y hacerlo caer en una trampa.
Estas personas, por cierto, le pedían signos y Jesús les responde que sólo se les dará la señal de Jonás.

Existe, sin embargo, el síndrome de Jonás. El Señor le pidió que fuera a Nínive, y él huye a España. Jonás se dijo: "tenía las cosas claras: la doctrina es ésta, se debe hacer esto, y los pecadores que se las arreglen, yo me voy”. A los que viven de acuerdo con este síndrome de Jonás, Jesús los llama hipócritas, porque ellos no quieren la salvación de la pobre gente, de los ignorantes y pecadores. El signo que Jesús promete, por su perdón, a través de su muerte y su resurrección, es su misericordia: "Misericordia quiero y no sacrificio".

El signo de Jonás, el verdadero, es lo que nos da la confianza para ser salvados por la sangre de Cristo. ¿Cuántos cristianos, cuántos son los que piensan que van a ser salvados solamente gracias a lo que hacen, por sus obras?

Las obras son necesarias, pero son una consecuencia, una respuesta al amor misericordioso que nos salva. Sin embargo, las mismas obras, sin este amor misericordioso, no sirven. En cambio, el «síndrome de Jonás» tiene confianza sólo en su justicia personal, en sus obras.

Es así que el «Síndrome de Jonás» nos lleva a la hipocresía, a aquella suficiencia, a ser cristianos limpios, perfectos, «porque hacemos estas obras: cumplimos los mandamientos, todo». Es una gran enfermedad. Y está la señal de Jonás, que es la misericordia de Dios en Jesucristo, muerto y resucitado por nosotros, por nuestra salvación.

First of all, say hello and wish everyone a happy and wonderful day. Congratulate each and every member of this illustrious Christian community and invite them so that all together we place ourselves in communion with our heavenly father.

Jesus speaks of a "perverse generation." His word is very harsh. But he does not refer to the people who followed him with great love, but to the doctors of the law who tried to test him and make him fall into a trap. These people, by the way, asked him for signs and Jesus answers that they will only be given the sign of Jonah.

There is, however, the Jonah syndrome. The Lord asked him to go to Nineveh, and he flees to Spain. Jonah said to himself: "I had things clear: the doctrine is this, this must be done, and the sinners who manage it, I'm leaving." Those who live according to this Jonah syndrome, Jesus calls them hypocrites, because they do not want the salvation of the poor people, of the ignorant and sinners.The sign that Jesus promises, by his forgiveness, through his death and his resurrection, is his mercy: "I want mercy and not sacrifice".

The sign of Jonah, the true one, is what gives us the confidence to be saved by the blood of Christ. How many Christians, how many are those who think that they will be saved only thanks to what they do, for their works?

The works are necessary, but they are a consequence, a response to the merciful love that saves us. However, the same works, without this merciful love, are useless. Instead, the "Jonah syndrome" has confidence only in his personal justice, in his works.

This is how the "Jonah Syndrome" leads us to hypocrisy, to that sufficiency, to being clean, perfect Christians, "because we do these works: we fulfill the commandments, everything." It is a great disease. And there is the sign of Jonah, which is the mercy of God in Jesus Christ, who died and rose for us, for our salvation.
