Primero que nada Saludarle y desearles que tenga un feliz maravilloso día a todas las personas. Felicitar a todos y todas los integrantes de esta ilustre comunidad cristiana e invitarles para que todos juntos nos coloquemos en comunión con nuestro padre celestial.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos llegaron a Betsaida y enseguida le llevaron a Jesús un ciego y le pedían que lo tocara. Tomándolo de la mano, Jesús lo sacó del pueblo, le puso saliva en los ojos, le impuso las manos y le preguntó:

"¿Ves algo?" El ciego, empezando a ver, le dijo: "Veo a la gente, como si fueran árboles que caminan". Jesús le volvió a imponer las manos en los ojos y el hombre comenzó a ver perfectamente bien: estaba curado y veía todo con claridad. Jesús lo mandó a su casa, diciéndole:

"Vete a tu casa, y si pasas por el pueblo, no se lo digas a nadie". Palabra del Señor.
Una exigencia fundamental, nos dice hoy Santiago, es la de una fe que –una vez aceptada en profundidad– impulsa natural y espontáneamente a la acción. Efectivamente, verdadero cristiano es aquel que escucha y pone en práctica la palabra, hasta hacerla «cimiento» sólido de su vida (Cfr. Mt 7, 24-27).

Para ello al menos tres cosas son necesarias: escuchar mucho, hablar poco y evitar inútiles conflictos. Tal honesto y decidido empeño llevará a una liberación de todo egoísmo y se realizará en una auténtica preocupación por el prójimo.

El relato de la curación de un ciego en Betsaida, exclusivo de San Marcos, tiene varias semejanzas con el realizado por Jesús en favor del sordomudo de la Decápolis (Cfr. Mc 7, 31-37). Pero hay algo muy propio de esta curación: es el único caso en que la sanación es gradual y no instantánea. Luego Jesús le recomendará el habitual y –en la práctica– imposible silencio.

También aquí las comunidades apostólicas descubrieron un rasgo litúrgico-sacramental, que luego se reflejó en el itinerario de la iniciación cristiana, mediante el progresivo proceso de iluminación bautismal del catecúmeno.

First of all, say hello and wish everyone a happy and wonderful day. Congratulate each and every member of this illustrious Christian community and invite them so that all together we place ourselves in communion with our heavenly father.

At that time, Jesus and his disciples arrived at Bethsaida and immediately brought a blind man to Jesus and asked him to touch him. Taking him by the hand, Jesus led him out of town, put saliva on his eyes, laid his hands on him and asked:

"You see something?" The blind man, beginning to see, told him: "I see people, as if they were trees that walk." Jesus again placed his hands on his eyes and the man began to see perfectly well: he was healed and he saw everything clearly. Jesus sent him home, saying:

"Go home, and if you pass through town, don't tell anyone." Lord's word. A fundamental demand, Santiago tells us today, is that of a faith that –once deeply accepted– naturally and spontaneously impels us to action. Indeed, a true Christian is one who listens and puts the word into practice, to the point of making it a solid "foundation" of his life (Cf. Mt 7, 24-27).

For this, at least three things are necessary: ​​listen a lot, talk a little and avoid useless conflicts. Such honest and determined commitment will lead to a liberation from all selfishness and will be realized in genuine concern for others.

The story of the healing of a blind man in Bethsaida, exclusive to Saint Mark, has several similarities with the one made by Jesus in favor of the deaf-mute of the Decapolis (Cf. Mk 7, 31-37). But there is something very typical of this healing: it is the only case in which the healing is gradual and not instantaneous. Then Jesus will recommend the usual and – in practice – impossible silence.

Also here the apostolic communities discovered a liturgical-sacramental trait, which was later reflected in the itinerary of Christian initiation, through the progressive process of baptismal illumination of the catechumen.
