What my Church has taught me

I usually think I don't have leadership ability. I'd rather be a faithful follower serving in the background than go all out there, yet it seems like I am beginning to step out of my comfort zone and I think it is not as scary as it seems to be.
There was a particular day I went to church for our youth retreat with serious stomach pain, so I kneeled at one corner praying to find a comfortable posture for my tummy. Our Youth President asked me to lead the next prayer session, and Immediately headache joined. I didn't need to be told it was as a result of shock, and till I slept that night the headache persisted.
It takes a lot of courage and preparation from my side to step up on a podium, lead or even face the crowd. Often when I tell people I'm not mentally prepared for an assignment, they don't take me seriously. I don't like impromptus. I mean, I rehearse conversations. You won't believe I stammer until you ask me to face the crowd and speak.
Yet, recently I have noticed there might as well be no escape to it.
Am I getting used to it? Yes. Would I prefer the background me or the all-out me? I still wouldn't mind being that background girl making things work but I wouldn't be an overly reserved me who is always too timid to express herself.
I like the fact that my church is teaching me confidence and my youth president seems intentional about it.
Get out of your comfort zone. The world is waiting for your manifestation.
Happy Sunday!
