Crypto Academy | Season 2 | Homework Task 1 FOR @alphafx

Ethereum

Vitalik Buterin is a co-founder and programmer from Toronto. He was one of the founders of the Bitcoin Magazine news site.

Gavin Wood is a former CTO and co-founder who has been implementing the Ethereum client in C ++ and GUI, and IDE. He founded Parity Technologies and has also been involved in the creation and consulting of projects such as GridSingularity, Blockchain Capital, Polychain Capital, and Melonport.

Ethereum is the first decentralized platform that has become a benchmark for the next generation and opened up a whole industry of new opportunities for the world. And at some point, the enthusiasm of the large community outstripped its technical development.

Ethereum resembles Bitcoin in many respects (Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm) and has inherited its drawbacks, becoming slow and consuming a huge amount of electricity. Think back to the CryptoKitties app that brought the platform to its knees!

Ether miners already use more electricity than Cyprus.

Like Bitcoin, Ethereum does not have a built-in management manager due to the decentralized nature of the platform. This means that there is no effective way for the community to completely update the protocol without the threat of a fork. As a result of the fork, Ethereum Classic has already appeared.

In addition, the great importance of Vitalik Buterin's opinion on the development of Ethereum calls into question the decentralization of the platform.

If Ethereum manages these challenges and updates quickly, it will be able to maintain its high status in the future; however, it will likely find it increasingly difficult to compete with newer technologies. As a result, it may turn out to be a niche platform for supporting ICOs or special smart contracts.

Pros:

  1. Great openness is one major advantage of Ethereum
  2. Ethereum is popularly known
  3. Easy integration with exchanges
  4. Ethereum have good cooperation with reputable organizations;
  5. Ethereum is a dominant platform for ICOs and DApps.

Cons:

  1. Ethereum network overload exposure
  2. The platform has a low speed for operation
  3. The platform limited by CPU performance
  4. Errors in smart contracts
  5. Too big a role of Vitalik Buterin in the development of the platform.

Stellar

Jed McCaleb is most likely the only person so far to have built two significant cryptocurrency companies. He launched the Mt. Gox (and sold it in 2011 - before the problems started there) and founded Ripple.

He also co-founded the eDonkey p2p file-sharing network in 2001.

The Stellar blockchain team has drawn on reputable advisors such as Patrick Collison (co-founder of Stripe), Sam Altman (president of Y combinator), and Matt Mullenweg (founder of WordPress).

Stellar's protocol is very cheap and quick. It costs few cents for thousands of transactions on Stellar.

It is safer than Ethereum: its more expressive yet smart contract architecture limits the ability to write code. Its ease makes it suitable for applications without Turing having full smart contracts (this includes the vast majority of ICOs and more complex contracts).

Stellar is all about high efficiency, safety, and very cheap transactions.

The first ICO on the Stellar blockchain was held by the Mobius network, which is a kind of middleware for application developers. It allows you to create decentralized applications (DApps) without the need to use the paid utilities GooglePlay and AppStore, as well as easily link different blockchains.

The team itself calls this project Stripe on the blockchain. The Stellar platform offered Mobius more security, transaction speed, and lower cost compared to Ethereum.
Tokensale took only two hours.

Pros:

  1. Stellar is beautiful through faster transactions
  2. One major advantage is that it takes low commissions on transactions
  3. Good performance promoted in Stellar
  4. Stellar safe to use
  5. Stellar has its own decentralized exchange.

Cons:

  1. Stellar is a centralized platform
  2. Stellar has a lesser role in ICO
  3. Stellar also have more complex integration with exchanges.
