Hello crypto lovers,

It is a grand honor to be among the participants of the week 6 of the steemit crypto academy.
This week happens to be the end of season 7 and I feel honored to be among the participants of this week contest.

This week contest promises to be very interesting and educative, that I can't wait to submit my entry.

Please follow along as I create my entry for this contest.

Before my steemit account was created, my friend who referred me to steemit made me to understand that I need to be very careful with my steemit keys, he also said that once the keys to my steemit account is compromised, it is impossible to recover that account.

These warnings actually moved me to strengthen the security of my steemit account.

I am proud to say that my steemit account have not been hacked before.
I took all preventive measures to ensure that I don't compromise the keys to my account.

I also ensure that I don't click on any link on steemit as I have heard of how some accounts have been hacked through phishing links.

Dubious links offering rewards as the name implies are links that are created by hackers with the intent of compromising the keys to an individual account.

These keys are usually presented to the prey in a pleasant way, the hackers promises all kinds of rewards to steemians only if they can click on the link.

Most times the hackers gives free reward and then asks others to click on the link to claim such rewards.

In other cases, after the links have been clicked, the prey will be asked to input his/her master key, of which will be used to gain access into his steemit account.

The use of dubious links offering reward is an effective way of hacking into other accounts as humans tend to be greedy by nature

The urge/desire to earn more makes steemians fall prey into this trap, and I feel that if steemians become more contented with whatever they have, they won't fall prey to this trap.

There are precautions that should be taken by steemians to prevent their account from being stolen/hacked, and some of them are shown below:

• AVOID GREED:

One major factor that causes an account to be stolen is as a result of greed on the part of the prey.

Steemians fall prey to this form of attack because they try to earn more and work less.

When steemians try to avoid greed, this will prevent them from falling prey to this form of attack from dubious individuals.

• AVOID CLICKING LINKS:

Another recommendation I have for steemians inorder to avoid falling prey to this attack is by telling them to avoid clicking links.

The clicking of links carelessly can actually move steemians to fall prey to phishing link.

• IGNORANCE:

Some accounts get hacked as a result of ignorance on the part of the steemians.

Most times, majority of steemians that fall victim to phishing links are newbies in the crypto space.

Out of lack of knowledge, many steemians have fallen victim to this form of attack, and got their account hacked.

This is one reason you should make research when you get into a new platform, this will teach you the Dos and don'ts of the platform, thus protecting you from scammers on the platform.

• GREED:

Greed is another reason many accounts got hacked on steemit and in the crypto space.

The desire to earn more rewards without working lures many into falling prey to such attacks.

They wish to get big reward for performing little tasks and in this process, they are lured to the wrong individuals.

Although it is a very sad experience to have one's account hacked, it is a very ugly experience.

Shown below are the words of encouragement I'd give to people whose account are hacked.

• BE MORE CAREFUL:

After the needed consolation, I will encourage the victims to be more careful with links next time.

They shouldn't click on any link they see and they should be very careful if they are too click on any link.

There are lots of scammers on the cryptomarket, and many of them make use of phishing links for their operation.

• AVOID SHARING YOUR KEYS:

Whenever you share your keys, you give the scammers easy access to the funds in your wallet.

I will encourage the victims to avoid sharing their keys in non-trusted sites, as most of these sites are being used by scammers.

The first step to take if your steemit account has been hacked is to immediately attempt to change your your master password.

As we know it, the master password has authority over every other steemit keys.

The master password can be used to change all other keys of an account.

This is the first thing I will attempt to do, and if it happens that my account has been over-compromised, or my master password has been changed, I can request for account recovery.

I will only decide to request for account recovery if the owner key of my account has been tampered with, and by so doing I will be given access to my account again.

The option for account recovery is only functional if the keys to an account have just been recently changed, at least within the range of 30days.

I can then raise alarm and contact the country representative of my country, they can help profer a better solution to the problem.
