Crypto Academy / Season 3 / Week 3 - Homework Post for @wahyunahrul / Airdrop - Giveaway In Cryptocurrency

1. What do you think about Airdrop in cryptocurrency?

If in one sentence I have to describe what the Airdrop is, it would be: "Promotion and Free profit".

An Airdrop is one of the most attractive methods of promotion and profit for small and big fans of cryptocurrencies. The creators and the team behind the promotional cryptocurrency will try to give recognition to that asset by divesting itself of a percentage of its capital, thus distributing it among the users who have managed to meet the requirements to participate in the Airdrop.

But not everything could be rosy. There will be people who try to make fraud, these scammers tend to seek identity or capital theft, so we must be careful.

2. How can we know about an Airdrop event so that we can participate?

  • Information pages.
  • Social networks.

There are pages that are partially or fully dedicated to the dissemination of crypto news. It is common to find on these pages some news about the platforms that will soon carry out an Airdrop, informing when, where, how, who is the group that organizes it and a lot of very useful additional information.

Doing a search in Google we will find interesting sites such as:

  • crypto-economy.com
  • airdrops.io
  • airdropking.io
  • icomarks.com

These pages usually offer information on how, when and where Airdrops from different platforms will occur.

Social networks are also a mode of dissemination par excellence of crypto news. Often, we will meet advertisers of new projects that are carrying out an Airdrop; closely following the profiles of these people and others who are part of the crypto movement, is a way to be on the lookout.

3. Where are Airdrop events often held?

  • On small and large crypto platforms and markets such as Binance.
  • On the own and independent platform of the company that organizes the Airdrop.
  • Creative ways.

Airdrops are events often held online through large platforms and markets like Binance. There are project developers who create their own web space, a platform with an independent interface, even when the project is anchored to other platforms. In these cases, depending on the capacity of the platform, an Airdrop event may occur using its own facilities and cryptographic means of exchange.

There are developers looking for a "Creative Way" to promote their tokens and their project. For example: they do raffles, raffles, awards and offline dynamics. This is a more "tangible" version of Airdrops.

4. Are all Airdrop events free from scams? Otherwise, how can we avoid the scam?

  • Do not give your private keys.
  • Find out enough before giving your personal data.
  • Find out enough before investing.
  • You can create a new email specifically to participate in the Airdrop, in this way you do not compromise your email affiliated with your personal accounts.

As I mentioned in question one: “not everything could be rosy”. There will be people who try to make fraud, these scammers tend to look for identity theft through questionnaires or capital when they ask for some private keys; therefore, we must be careful not to grant access to our private keys of electronic wallets or to give all our personal data when the source is not really reliable, when the projects and proposals are of dubious origin. It is better to ignore an Airdrop that does not promise any usefulness, that does not have enough information, that is as cumbersome as it is suspicious.

Disinformation will be our worst enemy, therefore, it is preferable to read the "whitepaper" and the biographies and cryptographic histories of the creators and developers; thus maintaining caution.

Sometimes the services offered during Airdrops are very useful; By studying the white papers and the biographies and cryptographic histories of the creators and developers, we will be able to evaluate how promising the project is or not. So, we are not only opting for free tokens in exchange for meeting some requirements, but we can be one of the pioneers in a great growing project.

What we will usually find in a whitepaper is a summary of a problem that the project is trying to solve and the solution to that problem. You will also find a detailed description of their product, its architecture and its interaction with users, as well as other matters of interest such as: how many tokens will be in circulation, when will the launch be, why that date and how the funds raised will be used (since there will not only be capital outflow but also income, due to the contributions of potential investors and others).

5. Have you ever participated in a cryptocurrency Airdrop event? If so, then explain. Meanwhile, if you have never participated but have heard of the Airdrop event, then explain it. (Show proof with screenshot)

"The Airdrop was carried out and we were part of it, the tokens were sent to our wallet at nTOPAZ.com; many people joined the project but in the end, the project closed."

Unfortunately, I cannot give more proof than what I will say below because I do not have access to the nTOPAZ Whitepaper or its main platform. The truth is that I was the curator of this project, it was very beautiful, because it promoted art in all expressions, paying the artists for it. There was room for people from all over the world, although the project itself was Korean. I quote the reasons for the closure of the project, in the voice of the same main team of nTOPAZ:

nTOPAZ, which began with a big dream of "social network for global talented people," is now saying goodbye to its service over the past two years.

We have struggled for quite a while to find a breakthrough, but feel sorry for the fact that we have to come to this conclusion.

However, including repeated trial and error to build the nTOPAZ service has cost me about US $800,000 in property losses over the past three years.

In addition, I have felt much hurt by the members of the team who have left, but I hope all of these will be an opportunity to grow further.

Although the most devastating blow was the takeoff delay caused by chronic development issues and the failure of subsequent development personnel operations, we also hope to evolve into a good experience in the future.

The nTOPAZ service is officially terminated as of today (January 31, 2020).

It was a shame to close such a promising project. On the nTOPAZ platform there was art of all kinds; The Whitepaper and the organizational structure where I appeared along with the other curators, leaders, creators and developers, was also anchored.

My role as a curator was minor. Along with a couple of other people, I was in charge of musical art, compliance with the rules and directing competitions; I was also in charge of the daily curatorship, of the incentive to the artists through messages and also of the order of the top 10 of daily art, always accompanied by the rest of the curators.

About the Airdrop... We as a team had rewards for our work, we were rewarded with "TOPAZ token", which we had accumulated waiting for the release date of the same. The date was approaching, the Airdrop was carried out and we were part of it, the tokens were sent to our wallet at nTOPAZ.com; many people joined the project but in the end, the project closed. Fraud? Some lost capital, others time and effort. It wasn't intentional fraud, at least that's what they told us. I was very fond of the project, I put a lot of care into it, the closing was a disappointment, in many ways.

6. Give and explain an example of an Airdrop event that has passed and the airdrop was successful. Then give one more example that has been proven to be a fraud. (It is not allowed to take the example that has been taken in question number 5).

Successful Airdrop: ASQ Protocol

A quite exciting and different Airdrop. On September 14, 2018 they launched into the sky of Scotland a rocket loaded with a Ledger Nano S (hardware wallet used for the storage of cryptocurrencies). The company provided a geographic location for users to find and retrieve the wallet. The searchers had time until September 30; They would give away $ 100,000 in ASQ tokens to the first person to find the wallet. The winner was a person named "Ashley."

The company encouraged users to visit its website and follow the additional announcements so that they could get clues and more information about the rocket launch and the geolocation of the ledger.

To participate, users had to meet the following conditions:

  • Join the company's whitelist.
  • Join ASQ's Telegram chat.
  • Share the company's pinned message found on its official Facebook page.
  • Complete the form in the telegram bot @airdropbot.

Fraudulent airdrop: XRP

On March 19, 2020, a video was uploaded to YouTube containing a description of a fake XRP token Airdrop that would take place on March 20-25. They were posing as Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of the blockchain company Ripple, to promote the fake Airdrop of 50 million XRP tokens.

The scammer was asking users to send between 2,000XRP to 500,000XRP to participate in exchange for an immediate Airdrop of 20,000 to 5 million XRP. For example, the scammer promises to send 2.5 million XRP in exchange for sending 250,000 XRP ($ 40,000) to your crypto address.

On March 23, the fictitious account was spotted by the crypto community and that's when YouTube people took action on the matter; though many complained that YouTube took action too late.

7. Look for an example of ongoing Airdrop events, make an analysis that proves that the Airdrop of your choice is good. (Screenshot required).

BAT Token caratula.png

  • Easy. This Airdrop gives free rewards in a way that we can simplify: we download a browser (Brave) and do searches while watching ads.

  • Profitable. With this, content creators win, advertisers win and consumer users win BAT (Basic Attention Token).

  • Reliable. “Basic Attention Token” was created by Javascript founder Brendan Eich.

  • Grants. There are monthly random token grants worth 25-40 BAT; they are usually available on a monthly basis and are claimed on a first come, first served basis.

  • Considerable market value. BAT (Basic Attention Token) is already listed on Coinmarketcap.

8. Explain the steps to participate in the Airdrop of your choice. (Screenshot required).

airdrops.io offers us a step-by-step guide to activate this Brave desktop browser on macOS, Windows or Linux devices (there is also a version for Android / iOS). We will see it below:

1. Download and install Brave browser on your desktop device. Brave Ads will be integrated in Android and iOS apps in the coming months.

5. From now on you will be presented with offers in form of notifications at a time that the browser finds appropriate and not disruptive.

6. Simply engage with these notifications, view the ads and you will earn 70% revenue share from the viewed ad, while Brave only receives the remaining 30%.

7. At the close of the Brave Rewards monthly cycle, you can claim your accumulated tokens. The BAT can be automatically donated on a monthly basis to your most visited sites, or used to tip favorite content creators or friends. Soon, you will also be able to use BAT for premium content, as well as redeem it for real-world rewards such as hotel stays, restaurant vouchers, and gift cards. Brave is also working on an option to let users withdraw BAT from their wallets for personal use, converting their BAT to a local fiat currency through exchange partners.

8. Please note that Brave Ads are geo-restricted to the following countries: US, UK, Canada, Germany and France. More geographies will be available soon.

9. You wil find more information about Brave Ads in their official announcement.
