No Hero
What do you want to be when you grow up, the teacher asked. It's Friday afternoon and no child is interested, the only wish is to go home. Almost the weekend, time to have some fun and forget about the boring teacher. A beam of light shines in and suddenly everything looks dusty. Is it dust swirling around or are they skinflakes? Marjorie starts sneezing spontaneously and I wish social distancing was still in effect.
One by one, the children list their dream profession. Unbelievable what nonsense they spout. I'm going to be a housewife, maid, or drudge and the other follows in the footsteps of father or grandfather. No one sees the neighbour as an example.
The hands go up and the teacher counts the number of police officers. They can forget about more blue uniforms on the street. Becoming a firefighter is also not popular. Working your ass off, running like a lunatic into a burning house to save Teddy or the snake is no longer a dream job, besides it is also unpaid work, and more dead cats are saved from the pond than fires are put out.
How about a being doctor, says the teacher hopefully. No child reacts and the teacher stares at me. You Willem-Jan, you will for sure become a doctor and your father and mother can definitely help you get a ban in twenty years or so. The teacher looks at me in despair but I am really not going to make him happy by lying that I think being a doctor is a fantastic job and that it also gives me a lot of satisfaction removing ingrown toenails, burning recurring warts and having to endure the nagging of the same people all the time and on top of that I have to get out of bed every night because someone is sick again.
Jan-Willem?
Teacher?
What will it be? Don't you want to be a hero, you seem extremely suitable to me.
The whole class looks at me and waits for the teacher to finish me off.
And?
And nothing, I say. I hate working and the last thing I want to do is walk around in a monkey suit and be a hero.
Just as the teacher opened his mouth, the school bell rang. Everyone rushed outside and with that the chapter "What do you want to be when you grow up" was closed.
Prompt: heroes

Hi Kitty! I hope you enjoy the Teaching Team task ;-)) I really like the posts that appear on our site.
Could you please make sure that you either post in English or include an English translation by the author? It's a Community rule...
And we have a little problem with your moderation under the posts: we once promised that there will be no such templates in Dream Steem. I understand that this evaluation is part of your role, but maybe you can put it in text form?
Rainy greetings... ;-))
Hi Dear,
I added it to the text and will see what we can change. For checking the comments the mods already know this can be done without the template.
I asked if what is done can be replaced.
If entries do not fit to the community please, feel free to leave your comment. I am afraid reading rules of a community is rarely done.
I hope you enjoy the rain. It's good for a cup of tea and reading. Summer went by too fast 🥺
I hope those who join wewrite will find some new ideas, communities and will invest in commenting since the average account doesn't and some only write a good comment if there's a good reason to which is once per month at most.
A great day to you.
🍀♥️
Thanks a lot. You are a great mediator! And the idea to connect different Communities is wonderful. We will see what happens...
I hope it helps and new communities and contests will be discovered. More interaction is healthy for everyone.
After this one 3 more lessons to go. Let me know how the overall experience is and if you like a second round.
