Él había recién culminado su Maestría en la destacada Universidad de Música y Artes Escénicas de Frankfurt. Por eso esa obra de arte que lucía imponente a través de la vidriera no pasó desapercibida para él. De inmediato lo reconoció, como cuando uno mira a su mejor amigo de infancia y el corazón salta de emoción pura: "Es un Steinway & Sons. No lo puedo creer es más bello de lo que se veía en los libros".
Casi por inercia, empujó la puerta de la tienda.
-¿Desea algo, señor? -preguntó la vendedora.
-Sí, deseo ver esa obra de arte desde cerca para guardar en mi memoria su imagen por siempre.
La vendedora no lo entendió. Pero lo siguió hasta donde estaba el piano.
-Es una obra de arte. El armazón es de roble. Para el mecanismo de percusión se utilizó arce. El teclado está fabricado con madera de ébano. ¿Sabía, usted, señorita, que el primer piano que realizó Henry Steinway lo hizo en el taller de su padre, ubicado en Brunswick, en el año 1835, y fue el regalo que le dio a su novia Juliane, el día que se casaron?
-Ay, señor, yo no sé nada de piano, solo me ocupo de venderlos -respondió la vendedora.
-Jajaja -Bueno, me imagino que económicamente te va mejor que a mí, ya me ves: sé mucho de piano, acabo de hacer una Maestría en una de las mejores universidades de este país, y no tengo dinero ni para comer.
La joven vendedora se sorprendió, y le dijo a Joseph:
-No se vaya, ya regreso.
Fue a la oficina del dueño de la tienda, y al poco rato regresó.
-Señor, Mr. Theodore desea reunirse con usted.
-¿Conmigo?
-Sí -Le conté lo que usted me ha dicho, porque recordé que él andaba buscando un especialista en piano para que se encargara de una sucursal que abrirá en Nueva York, y me ha pedido que vaya usted, inmediatamente, a conversar con él.
-Joseph no podía creer lo que escuchaba. El piano de su sueño le regalaba una alegría inusitada.

He had just finished his Master's degree at the renowned University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. That's why that work of art that looked imposing through the window did not go unnoticed by him. He immediately recognized it, like when you look at your best childhood friend and your heart leaps with pure emotion: "It's a Steinway & Sons. I can't believe it, it's more beautiful than it looked in the books."
Almost by inertia, he pushed open the door of the shop.
"Do you want something, sir?" asked the saleswoman.
"Yes, I want to see that work of art up close to keep its image in my memory forever."
The saleswoman didn't understand him. But she followed him to where the piano was.
"It's a work of art." The frame is made of oak. Maple was used for the percussion mechanism. The keyboard is made of ebony wood. Did you know, young lady, that the first piano that Henry Steinway made was made in his father's workshop, located in Brunswick, in 1835, and it was the gift that he gave to his fiancée Juliane, on their wedding day?
-Oh, sir, I don't know anything about piano, I only deal with selling them - answered the saleswoman.
-Hahaha - Well, I imagine that you are doing better financially than me, you see me: I know a lot about piano, I just got a Master's degree at one of the best universities in this country, and I don't even have money to eat.
The young saleswoman was surprised, and said to Joseph:
-Don't go, I'll be right back.
She went to the shop owner's office, and returned shortly after.
-Sir, Mr. Theodore would like to meet you.
-With me?
-Yes. -I told him what you told me, because I remembered that he was looking for a piano specialist to take charge of a branch office he is opening in New York, and he asked me to go immediately to talk to him.
-Joseph could not believe what he was hearing. The piano of his dream gave him an unusual joy.

Who would’ve thought just admiring a “work of art” piano, would have secured Joseph a good job in New York!! Life is really a mystery..
