a rabbit like other mammal is bilaterlly symmetrical with posterior and anterior end; ventral and dorsal sides. The entire body is covered with fur and consists of the head, neck and tail. the head is pear -shaped . the posterior end is blunt while the anterior end tappers towards the tip of the snout. Pair of lips the upper and lower lips the upper lip has a slit or cleft in the center thus exposing the incisor teeth in front. It is therefore referred to as the cleft lip or hare lip at the side of the mouth on the upper lip are the whiskers or vibrissae (singular-vibrissa) which are sensitive to touch and help the animal to move in its dark burrow above the mouth lies a pair of nostrils. Situated slightly higher, at the side of the nostrils are the eye. Each eye has an upper and a lower eyelid and a nictitating membrane. The head bears a pair of external ear.

each external ear consists of a funnel like pinna which receives sounds waves from all directions and also detect the direction from which the sound is coming. The neck is a narrow structure connecting the head to the trunk . It is flexible but firm . The trunk is made up of two region_ the thorax and abdomen. The trunk bear two pairs of limbs ( a pair of forelimbs and a pair of hind limbs). each forelimb consists of the upper arm the the fore limbs which has five digits . The junction between the upper arm and the forearm is the wrist . The fore limbs are short and the capable of taking the shock on landing at the end of a jump. each hind limb consists of a thigh between the thigh thigh foot which has four digits their straightening results in the forward thrust necessary for jumping. On the ventral side of the abdomen are 3 to 5 teats (which bear opening to mammary glands) in the adult female. The tail is short and located at the end of the trunk posteriorly on either side of the tail is a bare batch of skin into which opens the perineal gland. The secretions from this gland give the rabbit its characteristics smell. The anus lie under the tail while the urinogenital opening is just ventral to it.
