Downy Woodpecker
This male woodpecker is identified by the small size, short bill and
being a male it has the small red patch on the back of it's head.
Juveniles have the red on top of their head and as they.....

mature, it moves to the back.
Found throughout most of N America, I see them mostly during ....

the Winter, when they are easiest to spot, and always looking for handouts
from people leaving seeds about for them.
When you see goldenrods with a hole drilled into it, you know...

We are at the same latitude ... I noticed that too, funny I got a robin shot the other day too.. lol

These woodpeckers are so hardworking. Whole day insects under the bark of trees.
Yes, Usually they are, a lot of people leave out seeds for them makes it easier for them during the Winter

Great shots of the woodpecker. They are difficult to photograph as they keep moving around the tree.

Howdy sir karbon! Those are great shots and that's interesting to know what they're going after when they drill those wholes. It sounds like fly larvae would make a delicious meal. lol.
