How does weather affects our lives and play an important role? what kind of weather do you like and why do you like it.

image.png

Weather conditions are peculiar to zones and locations of a given geographical mapping. This is the reason why we have time zones which invariably means that what happens here at this moment may not necessarily be happening in other zones. No doubt, the different weather conditions inherent in our countries come with effects that determine and predetermine how we leave our lives.

Firstly, we see the effects of weather on our mood of dressing. Doing wet/rainy seasons, we usually see extreme cold days and it is observed that we wear warmer and thicker outfits so as to protect the body from any form of respiratory breakdown. This is unlikely what should be expected for a dry or hot season which allows for lighter and sleeves/short-sleeved clothes .in the same dry season, we also have the haze/harmattan season, this comes with high humidity with chilling tendencies. All of this determines our pattern of dressing at various times.

Secondly, it sometimes determines our place of inhabitation depending on preference. Some people will say that a particular state in my country has the same weather conditions as that those in the Western region that comes with extremely cold conditions. Also, some would prefer places that have low cold conditions and moderate hot weather. This sometimes determines our migration option.

Lastly, on this sub-topic, our food choices are determined by the seasons and periods. This may have a direct correlation with the emergence of more vegetables, fruits, or food species during this period than in the other seasons. Hence the food choices are made before they are out of their prime. And most importantly, we do know that during this season when the food items are in surplus, their prices tend to be affordable which also determines consumers' patronage vis-a-vis its off-peak seasons.

I like both seasons in my country as they all come with their uniqueness. During the rainy season, there are multiple and abundance of food crops which brings about affordability, varieties, and option for selection. But in this part of the world, it is a troublesome season for the motorist as the condition of the roads gets more deplorable.

On the other hand, dry seasons are usually accustomed to high events and cultural practices due to less or no availability of rain. Wedding ceremonies, coronation, yam festival, harvest ceremonies, Christmas and new year celebration are all life entertaining events to reckon with

What region do you live in? And what are the seasons in your region?

image.png

I am from the South-Eastern part of my country Nigeria which comprises five states in its geopolitical zone.

We basically have two major seasons namely; the Rainy season and the Dry/Harmattan season. Just as mentioned, the rainy season is accompanied by more rainfall whereas the Dry/Harmattan season is known to come with less rainfall and in some cases where harmattan is seen, there is an extremely cold condition.

What is your favorite season And why do you like it?

image.png

Just as earlier narrated, I do not have a preference for any of these seasons in my country as both come with the goods as well as the odds in it.

Firstly, the rainy season is a period we usually have in abundance, agricultural products surplus in the market. Most fruits like watermelon, oranges, mango, Maize, and Pear as well as vegetables (Pumpkin and Green leaves) are in their numbers. They are the spoils of this season which brings happiness to every household, especially the common and average man. But just, unfortunately, the deplorable roads get unpassable during this period with an incessant breakdown of vehicles due to the poor infrastructure on the ground.

On the other hand, the dry season comes with all the fun and life-entertaining events that bring forth the yuletide season. This is a time when we have in abundance, ceremonies, and festivals in the locality.

For the purpose of this contest, I would align myself to prefer the Rainy season.

Depending on the season in your region or country or city, which rituals are more celebrated?

image.png

The Dry Season is observed to come with hosts of events and celebrations. This is a time people feel that the disruption from rainfalls is minimal and hence at liberty to run their events unperturbed.

Let's look at the timelines, we have the August break where we have the rains going on a temporary break without much obstruction. This is the period we begin to become the dry season and this comes with the celebration of the new yam festival. Most clans and autonomous communities are observed to declare the ceremony of eating the new yam open for all. This is one of the cherished traditional festivals.

Between the months of September and November, there is the celebration of our most cherished yearly harvest which is primarily seen in churches. Different denominations are observed to fix different dates for theirs. Some also call it Bazar.

What about the proliferation of wedding ceremonies seen to be at its peak during this season. This is due to the less disruption observed in open field ceremonies. What about the Masquerade festivals also celebrated during November and December periods. They are a source of entertainment and cultural displays to most communities.

During December period (Dry Season), also brings about the hosting of football tournaments within and around communities. This sees to the large crowd and entertainment of people that fosters peace, togetherness, and love.

What clothes and food do you like depending on the season(cultural reflection)?

image.png

As earlier mentioned, my preferred season for the course of this article is the Rainy season. This goes with the wet or cold season and as a matter of fact, this comes with the wearing of warm or thick clothes especially long sleeves to reduce the effect of cold/flu and respiratory disorders.

There is a lot of food available for consumption during my favorite season. This ranges from fruits to vegetables and our conventional food. Some of these veggies include pumpkin leaves and green leaves, and fruits include mango, pineapple, pear, watermelon, bananas cucumber, and our tasty white and yellow maize. Some of the conventional foods seen within this period and in its surplus include plantain, yam, cocoyam, potatoes, etc.

image.png

Apart from you, which season do the people of your area prefer?

image.png

I may not categorically classify others' preferences for any of the seasons but I may guess correctly. Given the high cost of food commodities due to the world economic recession, there won't be any other preferred season other than that season when food items are in surplus (Rainy Season). This period comes with a relatively lower cost of food products due to the high supply in the market vis-a-vis the cost when in the dry season.

Secondly, I may attribute the rainy season to also be the preferred season due to the serenity and calmness of the weather due to the coldness at that time. It is easier to control the comfort that comes with its weather than the hotness or heat waves that are associated with the dry season given to the epileptic power supply on this side of the clime.

In which season does your area face more difficulties and what are those difficulties?

image.png

I will only make a remarkable point on this which happens to be one of the key problems with one of the seasons in my country. The rainy season, though its favorable and important part, also comes with some negative outcomes.

We have continued to suffer from Infrastructural decay and breakdown. And the roads are usually known to be a lot motorable with less damage during the dry season unlike what we have in the wet season. This has brought untold hardship for motorists when the roads are flooded.

What about the issues of flooding. This is also a reoccurring issue because of the insensitivity and negligence of the government. The drainages are not properly constructed and the little constructed ones are blocked due to indiscriminate dumping of refuse. Flooding has continued to displace people from their habitats, properties destroyed, and sometimes lives lost.

What is the special ritual associated with a particular season that people in your area have been waiting for all year?

image.png

There are yearly rituals that people have long awaited and these have been mentioned severally in my contents. I will mention those ones associated with the Dry season this time.

  • New Yam Festival:

This is usually done sometime in the eightieth month of the year. In August, most communities especially in the Eastern part of the country indulge in what is called "Iri Ji mmeme" meaning New Yam Festival. This is coordinated by the traditional ruler of that community and sometimes accompanied by some cultural displays and Masquerade outings.

  • Harvest and Thanksgiving in Churches

This is known to come after the new yam festival outings. Usually, it is mostly done in our churches and come between the months of September down to the first week of December. Farm products received are auctioned and the money realized is plowed back into the church funds for projects.

  • Christmas Day Celebration

Though this is an international celebration done all over the world in memory of the birth of our Lord Jesus (Christian Faith), it is an event everyone always waited for. What makes it more alluring is the next day's public holidays (Boxing Day_Dec 26) which as well gives workers more resting days.

Do you how much I have enjoyed the many fruits this season (rainy season). It is usually a season when one can easily get varieties of food commodities at a relatively cheaper rate.

Very sure, you simply narrated the key expectations of a rainy season as well as the difficulties. We know flooding and difficulty using the some of the roads has characterized this weather but can't also removed the goodies it brings. The varieties of foods, fruits and vegetables are kind of encouragement.

Thank you for sharing

Yes definitely, at least we enjoy the goods and spoils of this season despite the draw back that is associated with it.
Thanks for checking...

I really like the rainy season. Because at this time there is a very nice weather. But during this rainy season many poor people in our country have many problems. Maybe many do not have a home and many cannot eat. You're right, this is a very bad time for people.

Yeah, but I also believe that food is relatively cheaper for the common man during this period which should alleviate hardship.

I believe, the common man should be at peace with this season as it is a food and production season.

Thanks for checking

Christmas day celebration is always a period we all long await for aside from every other celebration that happens during the dry season. Moreover, it comes with a little high spending to meet up with the demands of the season but joyfu.

Yeah, it is a period of joyful celebration and especially a moment the christian community await to commomorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

I may slightly align with the dry season period as this come with all the hyped events ranging from the new yam festival, wedding ceremonies, Christmas celebration, etc.
