I welcome you all once again to my blog today. The engagement challenge is gradually coming to an end as we are currently on the fourth and the very last week of the season. As usual, the engagement challenge last for a month which is 4 weeks and we have successfully come to the fourth week of this very season implying that the season will be ending after this week's contest. The Urdu community has always organised an amazing contest throughout the season of the challenge.

Like every other week, this very week also has come with a very unique topic that goes with the title "How does weather affect our life and play an important role? which weather do you like and why do you like it". In this very article, we are requested to explain in-depth how the weather in our area affects our lives. First and foremost I will want us to understand what the term weather is all about.
The term weather simply refers to the state of the atmosphere at any point in time. When we talk about the state of the atmosphere we are referring to cold, heat, wetness (rainy season), dryness (dry season), calm or storm or even cloudiness or clearness. So whenever the atmosphere is showing any of the attributes listed above, we say that is the weather condition at that time. Let's go through the questions below to understand whether more clearly.
How does weather affect our lives and plays an important role? what kind of weather do you like and why do you like it.
Every weather condition affects our lives in one way or the other. It can be positively or negatively depending on the individual system or the place where we find ourselves. Some people love it when the weather is cold whereas others love it when the weather is hot. Others love the dry season whereas some people love the rainy season. As I have said earlier, this has to do with individual differences.
Some people prefer the rainy or cold season because their system agrees with it and also because it is a period when farmers make most of their income as they will have the opportunity to plant their crops and then feed themselves as well as their livestock properly whereas others prefer the dry season because their business doesn't get disrupted by rainfall. So in all of this, we see the weather playing an important role in our lives depending on the scenario.
In my case, the type of weather I like is the cold or rainy season weather. Here in my country Nigeria, some places are cold all year round whereas some other places are regulated with time. In my case, I grow up in a place with cold weather and my system got used to it hence anytime I'm in a hot place, I feel very uncomfortable. The cold and rainy weather in my area allows my people to farm all year round. This means there is always food and fruits available in my area.
What region do you live in? And what are the seasons in your region?
The region I grew up in and I'm currently living in the southeastern part of Nigeria, a place called the Mambilla Plateau which is seen in the Sardauna local government area of Taraba state Nigeria. It is a hilly region and most times other people call us the people on the hill. We have boundaries with Cameroon which happens to be a neighbouring country to Nigeria.
As I have earlier stated, the season in this area is usually cold and rainy. Rain falls here almost any time of the year. We are always expecting rainfall at all times because the weather here is usually wet all year round. So the season in this region is the cold and rainy season.
What is your favourite season And why do you like it?
My favourite season is the cold and rainy season. Just as I have explained previously in the question above, the reason why I like this season is that my system agrees with it very well. My body system doesn't like heat or dry weather hence if I'm in an area where the weather is not cold I get sick. Another reason why I like the rainy season is because of the availability of foodstuff. In the other part of the country, they have seasons when they plant their crops but here we plant all year round and that makes food available to everyone.
As a lover of nature, I'm always happy seeing everywhere looking greenish. Sometimes I just go out and then take pictures of the greenish pasture and then send them to some of my friends showing them how crops are growing perfectly in my area.
Depending on the season in your region or country or city, which rituals are more celebrated?
The ritual that is celebrated here in my region is called the New Yam Festival. This is a celebrated ritual once every year. Just like the Christmas celebration dated 25th December which is celebrated universally, the New Yam Festival is also celebrated every 13th day of August.
On the day of this celebration, there will be no rainfall and the weather will be very clear. It has always been this way since from generations. We were told that our forefathers declared the day a rain-free day for the celebration. All farmers will harvest their first yam planted for the year and bring it to the village square where everyone will eat and drink until everyone is satisfied.
What clothes and food do you like depending on the season(cultural reflection)?
The season here is always cold and wet and I do like it because it fits my body system completely. I always love to dress very simply. And I love eating vegetables and fresh fish most especially during the new yam festival period.
The images above show the type of food as well as the mode of my dressing in the wet or rainy or cold seasons. My body reacts so much to heat and for that reason, despite the cold in my area here I normally still dress very simple without covering completely my entire body. If I wear big clothes that will entail covering every part of my body, I will start feeling hot inside me so I prefer to dress this simple.
Which season's fruit do you like and why?
The season fruit I like most is Banana. Gembu is known to be one of the highest producers of bananas in the whole country. Banana produces perfectly very well every time here. But as we approach the August season, they produce even more. This is the period where we see it even more abundantly. The reason why I like bananas as fruit is because of the benefits it gives to the body. Some of the benefits of bananas are listed below.
1.- Taking bananas helps to improve the blood sugar level in our body as human
2.- Taking bananas helps digestion to be easy in our body
3.- Those who wish to lose a little weight always take a banana to help them with that I.e banana helps weight loss
4.- Banana is one of the fruits that are very rich when it comes to nutrients.
5.- For those who have heart problems, eating bananas can help subsidise the pains and their effects on the body system.
Apart from you, which season do the people of your area prefer?
People in my area prefer the cold season more than any other season. The truth is that most people travel far and new to come to my region and probably stay because of the weather condition. A lot of foreigners are presently in my region because of the weather condition of the environment. So I believe that the season that most people prefer in my region is the cold and rainy season. As I have said earlier there is always cold here and the rain falls anytime too.
In which season does your area face more difficulties and what are those difficulties?
The rainy season becomes very intense from May to July. Within this very time, the most difficulties that my people face is the accessibility of roads in some villages around that do not have a tiled road and the roads to our farms as well.
From the image above, you will notice that a water log is seen on the road which leads to our farms. This becomes an issue for us as farmers when want to go to our farms using our legs or on a bike. During this period a lot of people get injured if they don't carefully walk on the ground because it is very slippery. More accidents are recorded within this period most especially in the case of strangers who are new to the axis.
Based on the issues of this road, many buyers don't come to trade with us during this period and hence our goods are usually sold and purchased by the villagers at a more affordable price which sometimes leads to a loss of money. Anytime we trade our goods outside, we make more profit. So my people also face loss during this time as well.
What is the special ritual associated with a particular season that people in your area have been waiting for all year?
The only ritual that people always clamour for is the New Yam Festival. People travel from far and near to come and celebrate this great festival. A lot of our brothers and sisters who live outside the country come back during the period of the festival to celebrate with their family and friends. It is more like a season of reunion where disputes are settled between families, between friends and between everyone. For that to be achieved, every clan bring a representative who will join others to cook and then the food is shared within all the families that make up the clan. This is so significant because it is done just once every year and it unites the people the more.
Conclusion
Weather is an important factor in our lives and most times it affects us either positively or negatively. I'm so happy with the weather in my area because I find pleasure in it. Though sometimes like the period when we ought to make a bigger sell, the rainfall hinders some of this opportunity because of the accessibility of vehicles due to bad road. We are hoping that this road wi be tiled soonest to ensure that we always enjoy our weather all through the year.

The truth is that both rainy and dry weather are important; as you said, it depends on the individual. In Lagos, where I live, you wouldn't want to pray for rain because it will result in a massive flood that will destroy homes and property. On the other side, due to the hot weather and the farmers who required rain to grow their crops, northerners will prefer rain to dry weather.

Wow! Where a man grows up will depend on the type of weather he will be comfortable with. For me, I also like rainy season but there is always destruction and lot of loss that often come with it in Nigeria. Therefore, I prefer dry season. Thank you for sharing.
