Introduction
It's a great pleasure to be joining the contest hosted in this community, in fulfillment of the ongoing Steemit engagement challenge. I found this piece very interesting because it seeks to hear the social media platforms we use daily and some of the differences between them and Steemit. I would be making an entry into the contest and I'm sure you are going to have a great time reading today.

My Daily Most Used Social Media Platforms
The circle of my most used social media platforms is very small just as my circle is in real life. These are the ones I spent many minutes/hours using on daily basis either for studying, relating with friends, for work purposes, and so on. The list would only include the social media platforms I cannot do without daily, there are others I use but not quite regular.
After the proper screening of the social media platforms I use daily, I have come up with a list of 4 platforms, namely WhatsApp, YouTube, Discord and Steemit. The first three listed social media platforms are centralized while Steemit is decentralized. Let's take them one after the other and see how they benefit me.
WhatsApp is one of the social media platforms I cannot do without every day. It is a centralized social media platform for instant messaging (text/voice), voice/video calls and so on which is very easy to use, WhatsApp is a product of Meta Platforms. The adoption of WhatsApp in this part of the world is extraordinary, I guess it's the most basic messaging social media platform utilized by both young and old.
Benefits I derive from utilizing WhatsApp
- It's the most effective medium I utilize to communicate with my parents due to its simple interface that makes it easy for anyone to navigate through.
- It's suitable for the organization of peers in small groups for the dissemination of important information timely. For example, I have a group of friends I share daily crypto signals with, through WhatsApp.
- Cost-effectiveness is another benefit I enjoy from the utilization of WhatsApp. Using the voice/video call features of WhatsApp makes cross-border communication easy and you only spend so little, in fact, you pay what is infinitesimal as compared to using the traditional mobile calls that charge exorbitantly.
YouTube
YouTube is another centralized social media platform that I use daily, it's not just a mere social media platform but even a search engine where one can search for any information in a video form. A platform that is very effective for keeping up to date with happenings around the world and other educational content. Content creators around the world also utilize this platform for the monetization of their video content through views on their content.
Benefits I derive from utilizing YouTube
- I utilize YouTube for studying by visiting some popular channels for graphics design, cryptocurrency, programming, and so on, to learn more. It's a very effective way of studying, learning through quality video content.
- As a lover of football, if I had missed a match, I utilize YouTube to watch the highlights again even if it's just the most important parts of the game, I feel satisfied having a look at how the game went.
- I also utilize YouTube for the learning of quick real-life hack when needed. For example, aiming to lace my sneakers in a different way or how to cook a new recipe, and so on, YouTube helps me out quickly.
Discord
Discord is another social media platform that was initially created for gamers to connect, time has evolved and discord is utilized for more. Discord is a platform that can be utilized to gather groups of people who shares an identical interest in a particular subject to come together through a server with text/voice channels.
Participation in a server is strictly by invitation such that anyone can create one and invite their friends to the server as they share together. It also opens a platform for direct messaging and others.
Benefits I derive from utilizing Discord
- Discord opens a good platform for me to work with my team effectively, utilizing different channels to report metrics and important information as at when due.
- Discord enables me to create servers for a program and invite a suitable target audience, without any cost.
- I utilize Discord to participate in some crypto projects as it can handle a large volume of participants.
Steemit
Steemit is a decentralized social media platform built on the STEEM blockchain which incentivizes authors for creating quality content on-chain. It's one of the social media platforms that reward the activities of writers with upvotes that attach value to the content, this is an innovation over the centralized social media platforms.
In addition, Steemit also allows curators to earn from adding value to authors' quality content according to the stake-weighty mechanism. I refer to Steemit as my Facebook killer, my interaction over there has automatically gotten reduced ever since I joined Steemit because I had found a way to add value to my blogging activities. There is more to write about Steemit.
Benefits I derive from utilizing Steemit
- Steemit gives me the chance to monetize my quality content created on-chain and also earn rewards as a curator with my Steem Power.
- I have benefited more to become a great author who produces original articles with the Proof of Brain (PoB), which makes me better.
- Continuously learning from other great authors on-chain. Likewise, my organizational skills kept improving due to some duties I perform in a few communities over time.
These are the social media platforms I mostly use daily, there are more like Twitter, Facebook, and so on, which I hardly visit in days. For instance, it's been up to a week since I had visited Facebook as such I didn't consider it in my writing today. Let's proceed to the next section of the contest.
Why I think Spending more time on Steemit would help my Growth
Spending more time on Steemit as compared to other social media platforms has a lot to contribute to my growth and many benefits are attached to it. These reasons would be discussed in the subheadings below.
Improved Blogging Skills
Steem ecosystem operates on the Proof of Brain (PoB) where there is zero-tolerance for any form of plagiarism, spending more time here improves my quality as an author knowing fully that my content would be evaluated unlike most of the other social media platforms where almost everyone is indulged in copy and paste, without anyone to evaluate the content.
Ownership Preservation
As an author, the ownership of my content is preserved, other authors cannot directly copy and paste my content without being fished out by moderators in the communities on Steemit. As such, other users can only read my content to develop theirs. In essence, the original shape of an author is preserved without being presented by other authors in its raw form.
Improved Coordination Skills
I have a few responsibilities on Steemit which have immensely contributed to my coordination skills, ranging from being a moderator, part of the leadership of a community, as a community curator and so on, I have developed the skills to appropriate situations. The more time I spent on Steemit, the more I gets better at coordination, as such it profits me to stay more active on Steemit than on other social media platforms.
Monetization
Steemit remains the easiest to monetize blogging amongst all other social media platforms I have listed earlier. Steemit distinctively incentivizes my blogging activities in a way that is not possible on the aforementioned social media platforms, for example, monetizing my activity on WhatsApp comes with advertising a service to draw people to patronize me, and my articles shared on the WhatsApp group have no monetary value.
Spending more time on Steemit to create quality content increases my chances of getting my activities monetized.
Broadened Network
Creating articles on Steemit reaches different people from all spheres of the world and thereby I get to meet, connect and work with other great minds. Frankly, connecting with more people from other parts of the world is easier than on other social media platforms where you have to get their contact details or send friend requests before interacting with them. In addition, I get to learn from articles made by other authors from different parts of the world, their cultures, profession, and so on.
Merits and Demits of Steemit as compared to other Social Media Platforms
I have been able to analyze different social media platforms earlier and how it benefits me to spend more time on Steemit. In this section of the contest, I will be discussing the merits and demerits of Steemit as compared to other social media platforms. Let's get into it.
Merits of Steemit
- Steemit is a decentralized social media platform where users are in full control of their accounts without a central authority that tends to ban them for any reason. Other centralized social media platforms are associated with central authority that can forcefully ban users' accounts for violations or other reasons.
- Steemit preserves value for original content owners, as developed by the Proof of Brain (PoB) such that other users can't directly use them without being marked as plagiarists which dents their reputation on-chain. Other social media platforms discussed in this piece have nothing like the Proof of Brain, an author's article can be copied and pasted without attributing the original owner.
- Real-time monetization is another advantage of Steemit where authors directly earn on their articles by receiving upvotes from other users (curators). The possibility of real-time earning seen on Steemit is missing in other social media platforms discussed today. Below is an example of my real-time earning on my article made on Steemit.

- Steemit accounts are cryptographically secured such that it's hard to hack them. Other social media platforms discussed are only secured with passwords which makes the accounts more prone to hacking.
Demerits of Steemit
- Steemit is built on the blockchain where transparency is very important as such there is no direct message features on Steemit unless users utilize encrypted messages through the Steemit wallet for communication. Some of the other social media platforms discussed in this article have handy direct message features for private communication.
- Steemit doesn't have a mobile App which makes navigating through it sometimes hard for beginners while other social media platforms have mobile Apps with quite a simple interface.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I use a few social media platforms daily but it profits me in so many ways to spend more time on Steemit as it aids my capacity building, learning, connecting with great people, monetizing my blogging and so on.

I see that most of people use these social media platforms that you shown above. These social medias han many banefits for the users. With the help of these social media many problems of the people has been solved. For example now we can calls to our relatives from one country to another country with very little cost. on the other hand we can get the knowledge about study, crypto, and many other things with the help of Youtube. But the problem is that these social media are not decentralized.
Yes my dear friend steemit has not yet its own mobile app this is the big issue because sometime the website may take a lot of time to open so thats not good. and if steemit launch their official application then many problems can be solved and i hope steemit will launch it in the near future. Hahaha, Steemit is indeed "Facebook killer". The narratives changed when I joined steemit. I cannot give more time to a platform that gives me less income inflow, hence "my steemit my engager"😊. Thanks for your post.
