Greetings steemians

This is an exciting contest which is about language and I am happy to be writing about this contest. Therefore welcome all to my contest post.

Defining Language.

Language is one of the integral part of the means of communication. Language is a tools use to communicate information or feelings across to mutual speaker. Language is one of the major connection among a tribe or culture.

How does language connect an individual to his family globe or society.

The individual is an integral part of a family. The key word in Language is “communication” Language aid communication. Language generates understanding between an individual and connect him to his family. The family speaks one language because members of the family usually grow up together. Besides blood language is what binds them together.
Language also connect an individual to his society. In any society there is always a commonly spoken language between the people. It is this language that brings about interaction process between the individual and the society.
Globally, language also connect and individual to the rest of the world. There are languages known as the universally accepted language and the most prominent of them is English and French. Most people around the globe are either English or French speakers. Language help to bind the people together globally.

Which is your mothers tongue and which languages are spoken in your homes apart from your mother tongue.

Well, my name is Ebun and I'm from the south western part of Nigeria. My mother tongue is Yoruba language. Other than the Yoruba language we speak Nigerian Pigin and English in our home. Nigerian pigin is a widely spoken language in Nigeria homes today. English was learnt from school while Pigin is from the street.

How many language do you know and how did you learn more than one language.

I am multilingual. I know Yoruba which is my mother tongue, I know Nigerian pigin which is Nigeria’s generally spoke language. I know English which is a universal language, lastly I am quite familiar with French language thought not very fluently. Let's say 40%.
I learned how to speak Yoruba language from my home, in my family because that is our tribe and my parent spoke it to us. Nigerian Pigin was learned on the street and through movies as well. I sabi speak am well. English was a language that I learned from school because it is the language used to teach us in school. Lastly, I took French class in Secondary school and it gave me a beginner insight to the language. Moreover, I leaved with a french student in the university.

In which language did you study in school and which language do you prefer in the education system of your country and why?

I studied in English language in school. It is the language used to educate in Nigeria. I don't mind studying in English language because it is a universally accepted language.
Also, since the native language could be spoke at homes and learned even on the street, I believe using the English language to teach in school is a added advantage to the knowledge of the students.

How does one language or more than one language play an important role in the development of your country.

Nigeria is not an island of it's own. Having English and other native language will let her leverage her trade to countries that are English native speaker. This will boost the economy when trade is yield well
Secondly, foreign investor such as SHELL, NESTLE, will not be faced with language being a barrier when they come to invest in such country. As of the case of Nigeria, these foreign investor have their quota in economic growth and also in provision of job opportunities.
Having more than one language will also help a country to have diplomatic relations with other countries outside their domain.

How does Culture relate to language?

Culture is a way of life of a people. This include their dressing, food, religion, and LANGUAGE. Language is an integral part of Culture. It is a Cultural heritage of a people. Their accent and the way a speak alike.

Would you like to write in your own language at the time of writing this post or not. If yes why, if no why not?

Well, I wouldn't mind writing in my own native language which is Yoruba but the main essence of language is communication and understanding. So, this is why I would prefer the English language. It is universally understood, as such I will have more persons reading and understanding the message that I'm passing across.

If you want to promote your language in the world how would you do it. And if you've already done it how much success have you achieved?

Yoruba language is a limited Language and it is only spoken in South western Nigeria and some part Benin republic. If I want to promote my language, would coach non speakers on how to speak it and encourage them to speak.

Conclusion

No doubt humans cannot survive without a means of communication. Language is an integral part of our lives and culture.

Hello @msquaretwins

You don't have to be in the street to learn Nigerian pigin. You will learn it unconsciously all over the place, because it has circulated. I said pig in was from the street because that was were it spread out from to the rest of us.

Besides who does not walk on the street or has not had anything to do with street itself?
I'm sure you take transport or go to boutique stores or market, those people will not speak plain English to you. I'm sure there will be at least one of your friends that speaks pig in most times.

I hope say you get the point wey I make about pigin now.

Thanks for reading
