We do have like that here in our area. Same as yours, we are near in the sea. But our local government has issued an ordinance that prohibit to do it because it can cause damage to potable water streams under ground. Might the level of sea water and the potable water will be mixed up. That's what I know, why the local government issued ordinance. If your going to pursue it, you need to secure permits and pay big. :-(
that's a pity... in many different regions in my country especially my hometown (@anroja also the same) every house has a well, because the water services from government is so awful, the water is muddy (usually taken from river and distillate or filtered before sending out to customers. in several places at least we have a public well too.
we live surrounded by water but we always have a problem when we need water, your information reminds me to not waste the water like it'd never gone.
Definitely true my sister. A sad reality. That's why living here made me more realize that we should not waste water or any other resources and continue to care about our mother earth.
