Hello my fellow steemians!

As an educator, I had lots of things to consider. I need to consider my students, my paperworks, and my life with my family after work. But being a teacher, it is not assurance to indulge the time after work especially when we encounter students who had some problems.

Three years ago, I was designated as a Special Science Class (SSC) adviser. This group of students where considered having higher IQ than the regular class.

SSC students are very participative and cooperative during face-to-face classes. You really can differentiate them fro my regular class. Until the pandemic strike the universe students. I notice that my SSC advisory class this school year performs not that good. Their main reason is that they really find it difficult without a teacher who will guide them. They didn't use to it that they will get low score, or they will not understand the topic. In short, its hard for them to accept the changes of our education. Just this week, we had our 3rd distribution for weeks 5 and 6 module. And I noticed one students who get his 1st and 2nd module didnt go back and retrieve his answer until his 5th and 6th modules. So, I tried to call him and chatted on messenger but no one answer my call. After 2 days of trying to contact him, he is no longer in service. So, I tried to contact his classmates and ask a sketch going to his house.

Good thing one of his friends pm me and gave me a sketch. So, right at that moment I prepare the "Home Visitation" paper I needed to bring going to their house.

After work, even if its already family time I need to get a piece of my time just to extend my help to one of my students. So, I called my husband to accompany me going to their place. As I was in their place, my student's grandparent's welcome me.

As I was there, the grandparents were so grateful that they meet me. They really tried to talk to me but they don't know how because my students didn't give my contact to them and he is just trying to show to them that he is not facing any problem to modular class.

And now I understand why he acted like that. He is just staying with his parents and he is ashame to share to his grandparents his problem. Being in modular class, the parents/any guardians should be the one to claim the module because minors were still not allowed to go outside. But since he is with his grandparents, he is shy to let them claim his module since they are already old. And good thing, I visited them and I was able to hear their side and I was able to give them instructions on what to do next. And aside from that, he really had hard time understanding the modules all by himself. And it is a big difference when someone is discussing it.

And he is now back on track, and tried to comply the modules he had missed.

And I am so happy, at least I was able to save one student from dropping out. If I didn't visited him, the registrar might drop him because the rule is if it reached 5 modules that has not retrieved, automatic drop out. So as an adviser, I am happy for my student, my second son in school.

So, to all teachers out there. We should not decide and drop them right away, instead let us try to hear their side and we shoul try our best to help. As a teacher we need to motivate them and let them accept the fact that our way of educating them now changed due to the pandemic. And to all the parents out there, let us try to help hand in hand for the future of your kids. Education should not be stop just because of the pandemic, let us try to continue and embrace changes.

Thank you everyone and always STAY SAFE!

I invited @abby0207, @fabio2614 and @rosevillariasa to share their student's story.

The Educator,
