Is it worth buying a Nintendo Switch Lite?
The Nintendo Switch is one of the systems that is having one of the best successes in the market, this opens the curiosity of many gamers who want to try a new experience in an innovative platform, in which progressively, a huge amount of titles are being launched by Nintendo and other developers.
Recently, a new version of this console was released, which became known as the Nintendo Switch Lite, offering certain unique features which the Nintendo Switch "Fat" does not have. As a result, many users are asking themselves, "Is it worth buying a Switch Lite?
First we must make a small evaluation of the handheld console, determining what are its advantages and disadvantages compared to the original hybrid, so we can draw the conclusion if it is currently better to buy a Switch Lite or wait a little to see how it evolves in the future.
Below, we'll look at some advantages and disadvantages of the Nintendo Switch Lite in order to draw a conclusion and see whether or not it's worth buying.
Advantages of a Nintendo Switch Lite
Size and weight
This portable console is designed to be portable, decreasing its size compared to the original console, this allows it to be more easily and feasibly moved. Another outstanding feature is its weight which, compared to the Switch Fat, is much lighter, making it more pleasant to hold in your hands for longer periods of time.
Price
The Nintendo Switch Lite has one of the most affordable prices available today, costing less than $100-150 less than the Fat, depending on whether you buy it new or used. This is because many of its components were simplified, for example, the Joy-Con, which were integrated, ie, can not be removed as in the original console.
Longer battery life
Thanks to the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, the power consumption of the Nintendo Switch Lite is much lower than that of systems manufactured in 2017. Its usage time can last between 3 to 5 hours, depending on the game being played, as some require more hardware than others.
Disadvantages of a Nintendo Switch Lite
Incompatibility with some games
There are certain video games that require Joy-Con, since their playability depends on the movements that are executed in them. Although there are very few that require this on a mandatory basis, it is a fact that we must take into account, however, this can be solved by buying a pair of Joy-Cons, but the magic of portability will fade away.
No TV connection
One of the things that was sacrificed in the Nintendo Switch Lite is the ability to connect it to a TV or monitor. If you're one of the people who love to play this way it won't meet your requirements, as it was designed to be 100% portable.
Joy-Con integrated
If any button or joystick in the Switch Lite is damaged, we cannot replace it as in the original console, because these are integrated, having the need to disassemble the console in order to change the part and let it work again.
Is it worth buying a Nintendo Switch Lite?
If you're a person who doesn't have a Nintendo Switch Fat, your budget is a bit tight and considering the small disadvantages of Lite it's worth buying. It offers a similar experience to the original system, plus you can buy Joy-Cons which will detect and play multiplayer locally.
Now, if it's the case that you have an original Nintendo Switch I think it's not worth changing it for a Lite, because you would be taking away features from a video game console that is hybrid and compatible with absolutely all titles, without the need to buy any additional peripherals.
Also if you don't want to take your original Nintendo Switch out of your house, but you want to be able to play your video games on a lighter system, it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a Lite, however, this represents an additional expense that very few can afford, but if you have the budget it's worth it.
As a personal recommendation, I think it is better to wait a little bit, since companies are always launching improvements to their consoles. Possibly in the future the Nintendo Switch Lite will have a better battery or other features that will make it more relevant than the original console.
I hope that this little guide will help you decide whether or not it's worth buying a Nintendo Switch Lite. I recommend that you evaluate your playing style very carefully, as it will depend on whether or not you will enjoy the experience of the system you choose.
