Back in the mid 90s, it was almost customary for beloved Australian Cricket Champions to be given a "Testimonial Match" - usually an invitational 50 over match with a number of past and present players (international and domestic) as well as some local celebrities - when they retired.

David Clarence Boon was no different. I was lucky enough to win a radio contest, of which the prize was a couple of tickets to an International match at the MCG, and a bat signed by the players from Boonie's Testimonial.

The Tasmanian Cricket Museum don't have such a piece, and as I have nowhere to display it at home, it has been on loan to them for the last dozen years or so.

Great story!

Do they have any of the 52 beer cans on display which Boony was said to have consumed on one flight from Oz to the UK?

Not that I can recall, but last time I was there I did see a few cool exhibits. I'll have to have a dig and see if I can find some old photos, or maybe I just found a reason to go for a look around and take Miss 4 with me for some education
