Brown praying mantis

Very few insects are beneficial in gardens and one of them is the brown praying mantis.
It belongs to a carnivore class of insects. Although they look as they are praying, they are actually preying. They can prey on insects, small lizards, frogs, and even another praying mantis. It is well known that they exhibit sexual cannibalism (the males are eaten by the females).

Found this brown praying mantis while I was mowing the lawn. I haven't seen brown in a long time, I mostly see green and much smaller in size. This one is around 7cm long.

Thanks for stopping by.
