THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS BACK!!!

The English Premier League is back with a bang! Back from the six (6) weeks break from the World Cup at Qatar and picking from where they left off on Boxing Day. Players were back to their various teams looking to pick in selection and have a feel of the greatest game, although not all the player seem to be back, players from especially the two nations at the World Cup finals Argentina and France were still resting and more celebrations from the Argentine players in their country. The teams were looking forward to make an impressive start from the break, some who had a bad end before the break were really looking forward to positive start to boost the team and player confidence. And those with a winning streak wanted to keep it that way coming back from the break.

The Boxing Day special started with a London Derby in North London at the Brentford Community Stadium, where The Bees Brentford host Tottenham who had an incredible at start of the season seating at the fourth of the table although had tough end before the break losing two in a row to Liverpool and then Nottingham Forest before the break. Whilst Brentford had boost of confidence before the break after a thrilling victory against Manchester City in the Etihad Stadium. With that in the past both teams were in the game to get three points and keep their spirits up. It wasn’t the best start from Tottenham before the first half break as they trailed by 1 – 0 from the Brentford side. And it became a double after the break into the second half of the break making it 2 – 0 against Tottenham. But the game quickly had an interesting twist when Harry Kane put an in equalizer in the back of the net for Tottenham making it `2 – 1 and putting some spirits into the Tottenham players. And then the scores were leveled on a 2 – 2 score line after a goal from Højbjerg. The match ended with points shared between the teams in a 2 – 2 score line, but though frustrations for both teams as Tottenham who thought they should have had an easy win and Brentford who thought they had thrown the match away after having a two-goal lead.

The next set of matches came off at the same time, between Everton vs Wolves, Leicester City vs Newcastle and then Southampton vs Brighton. At the Goodison Park, where it was frustrations for Everton who suffered their first defeat after taking an early lead but trail on a 1 – 2 score line at the end of the match against Wolves who got their first victory under the new management of Julen Lopetegui. And that win saw that Wolverhampton Wanders went from the bottom of the table to 18th just one point cleared of Everton who failed to get any point thereby seating just on the edge of the relegation zone in 17th position.

At the King Power Stadium where Leicester City were hosting a high form team of Newcastle United. Newcastle United move up the 2nd on the table after a dominant 0 – 3 victory against Leicester City with all goals scored in the first half of the game. An that saw that Newcastle picked off from their impressive winning streak from the break and had a win getting back to the game.

Brighton Albion also dominated against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium where they picked up a 1 – 3 against Southampton and moving them to 7th on the table and Southampton falling at the bottom of the table on 20th position.

Later on Aston Villa hosted Liverpool at Villa park and both teams were looking to have a positive start from the break. Liverpool got the better of Aston Villa after a 1 – 3 victory that helped boost Liverpool into the 6th on the table but Aston Villa falling to 12th of the table.

And the last game of the Boxing Day special was between the Premier league table leaders Arsenal who hosted West Ham in another London Derby third of the day at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal much more than happy to take off from winning ways after the break and maintaining their lead on the table. The match firstly went in the favor of The Hammers West Ham before the second half of the break after they got a lead from the penalty spot that put them ahead before the break. But The Gunners Arsenal came back strong after the second half of the game to level on the score line and momentarily making it 3 – 1 in their favor before the end of the game. Arsenal picked up all three points and maintaining their lead on top of the Premier League table and boosting confidence into the team, players and their supporters as well.

On Tuesday 27th December 2022

Two matches was played the next day after Boxing Day, the first which was between Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth and then the last between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea was more than happy to take all three points from Bournemouth after a two-goal victory over them with all goals scored in the first half of the match. Ending their five match campaign without a win in the Premier league and boosting some confidence into the team and some hope into the supporters after a very frustrating campaign before the World Cup break.

The last match of the day went on between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford. It was dominant return for United who took all three points from the match after a 3 – 0 victory and the right start to the World Cup break, moving to 5th position on the Premier league table just one point cleared behind Tottenham who are 4th position in the top four race and still with a game at hand. And Nottingham Forest drop to 19th of the table in the relegation zone with just a point cleared from the bottom dwellers Southampton.

On Wednesday 28th December 2022.

Leeds United hosting Manchester City was the last match of the Premier league after the World Cup break. Manchester City dominated the game and got the better of Leeds United in a 1 – 3 victory that gave them all three points and just kept them in the title race back to 2nd on the table and five points behind the league leaders Arsenal.

What an interesting first week coming back from the World Cup break it has been in the Premier league, with thirty-two (34) goals yielding from the set of matches played. A very comeback from the break the Premier league offered, full of goals and cheers from supporters all around.
