Greetings to everyone on the platform, I hope we are all doing and enjoying the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup in good health. What a twisting competition it was from the group stages and we are now into the round of 16 which is the first knock-out stage of the competition. So far six (6) teams have made it into the quarter finals qualifying from the round of 16. And later on two teams that I’m very keen on in attention will be facing off for the second time in FIFA World Cup competition.

The face-off between “the Atlas Lions” Morocco of Africa and the 2010 FIFA World champions Spain, these two teams are facing off for the second time in the World Cup history. The first was at the last World Cup at Russia in the group stages where it was an equal points shared between the two teams in a 2 – 2 draw. And now they are facing off again in a knock-out stage in the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, a match that one team must win and securing a place in the quarter finals of the competition and will have the opportunity to face either Portugal or Switzerland who also face off today later after the first match.

“The Atlas Lions” have never made it passed the round of 16 in a FIFA World Cup tournament in their 6 appearances since 1970. They are in fact reaching the round the round of 16 for the second time in the FIFA World Cup, the first was in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico after losing to the runner-ups West Germany. And they face a similar challenge later on today against the seventh best team in the world currently and the 2010 FIFA World Cup Champions.

The Morocco national currently ranked in twenty-second in the FIFA ranking made a very impressive performance in qualifying from the group stages by defeating the second best ranked team in the world currently Belgium, a draw with Croatia and another victory against Canada. Which put them on top of their group table, the first African team to top the table in a FIFA World Cup group stage competition. With impressive performance from some of their known star players, Hakim Ziyech, Achraf Hakimi, Soufiane Boufal, Youssef En-Nassiri and the goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. And with Walid Regragui as the head coach who is yet to have a defeat after taking over in August and have achieved 2 draws and 4 wins.

Moving on to the Spanish side, the Spanish national team I think needs no introduction. The 2010 FIFA World Cup champions and currently ranked the seventh best team on the planet according to the current FIFA ranking. The Spanish qualified from their group stage in a six goal advantage with Germany who were all leveled on the same points. Their opening match massive win 7 – 0 win against Costa Rica was their biggest ever win in FIFA World Cup match. And that win was very crucial and was an anchor that sealed their position in qualifying to the round 16 after losing their last match to Japan in a shocking 2 – 1 defeat and ending up in second place of the table with a six goal advantage ahead of Germany.

Unlike their opponents “the Atlas Lions” Morocco, the Spanish have made it to four (4) FIFA World Cup quarter finals and would be much happy to add to the records this afternoon in making it five (5) quarter finals. But it wouldn’t be easy battle between the Morocco team who are yet to lose a match under new managements and are well determined to also make a great mark on this competition. Luis Enrique the head coach of the Spanish team have a very performing squad of young talents in this competition. The like of Olmo, Gavi, Pedri, Ferran Torres and Alvaro Morata just mention a few. And these are no doubts on of the best players in current European football. They’ll be looking forward to make their country proud and take pride in their name.

Ha sido una competición llena de giros, desde la fase de grupos hasta los octavos de final, que es la primera fase eliminatoria de la competición. Hasta ahora, seis (6) selecciones han logrado clasificarse para cuartos de final desde octavos de final. Y más adelante, dos equipos que me llaman mucho la atención se enfrentarán por segunda vez en la competición mundialista.

El cara a cara entre "los Leones del Atlas", Marruecos, de África, y los campeones del mundo de 2010, España, estos dos equipos se enfrentan por segunda vez en la historia de la Copa Mundial. La primera fue en el pasado Mundial de Rusia, en la fase de grupos, donde ambos equipos se repartieron los mismos puntos en un empate a dos. Y ahora vuelven a enfrentarse en una eliminatoria de octavos de final de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA Qatar 2022, un partido que uno de los dos equipos debe ganar y asegurarse el pase a los cuartos de final de la competición y tendrá la oportunidad de enfrentarse a Portugal o Suiza que también se enfrentan hoy más tarde después del primer partido.

Pasando al lado español, la selección española creo que no necesita presentación. Los campeones de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2010 y actualmente el séptimo mejor equipo del planeta según la clasificación actual de la FIFA. Los españoles se clasificaron en la fase de grupos con seis goles de ventaja sobre Alemania, que estaba empatada a puntos.

Su victoria masiva en el partido inaugural por 7-0 contra Costa Rica fue la mayor de su historia en un partido de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA. Y esa victoria fue muy decisiva y sirvió de ancla para sellar su clasificación para octavos de final, después de perder su último partido contra Japón en una sorprendente derrota por 2 a 1 y terminar en el segundo puesto de la tabla con una ventaja de seis goles sobre Alemania.

A diferencia de su rival, los "Leones del Atlas" marroquíes, los españoles han llegado a cuatro (4) cuartos de final de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA y estarían muy contentos de añadir esta tarde a su palmarés cinco (5) cuartos de final. Pero no será una batalla fácil para la selección marroquí, que aún no ha perdido ningún partido bajo su nueva dirección y está decidida a dejar también una gran huella en esta competición.
