The decision to award the hosting rights to Qatar came as a major surprise to many, given the intense heat and humidity present during the summer months in that part of the world. However, it’s been an even bigger shock to see so many corruption allegations come out since then. With that being said, here is an updated look at everything we know so far regarding the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup...

What is the FIFA World Cup in 2022?
The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be a major international sporting event held in Qatar. It will be the first time the event has been held outside of Europe or Asia since 2002, and it will be the first time it has been held in the Middle East. Many people were surprised by the decision to award the hosting rights to Qatar, given the intense heat and humidity that exists in that part of the world during the summer months. However, the number of corruption allegations that have surfaced since then has come as a complete surprise.
Qatar was chosen over all other countries mostly because of its vast wealth. Qatar is one of the world's wealthiest countries, and the government was willing to invest heavily in the country's infrastructure in order to prepare for the tournament. Many saw the move to bring the World Cup to the Middle East as an attempt to broaden the sport's international appeal.

The Corruption Allegations
The allegations of corruption initially surfaced in December 2017, when the New York Times published an article alleging FIFA members of accepting bribes and kickbacks in order to secure Qatar's bid for the World Cup. A primary source for the story, according to the article, was Chuck Blazer, a former FIFA executive committee member and CONCACAF president. Blazer is accused of receiving $2 million from Qatar in exchange for voting in their favor throughout the decision-making process. Qatar did actually make the cash, but it was provided to CONCACAF as a bribe, according to Blazer, who has since gone away. Blazer further claimed that he was bribed $1 million to vote for Qatar to host the World Cup. Blazer's acts were deemed severe violations of FIFA's code of ethics, and he resigned from all of his FIFA and CONCACAF posts as a result.

Qatar’s Infrastructure Plan

There is no doubt that Qatar will spend a significant amount of money in the coming years to improve their infrastructure in order to be ready for the event. However, there are serious fears that the extreme heat and humidity of the summer months may render the stadiums unfit for sporting events. To address this issue, Qatar has proposed an air-conditioned stadium with a temperature of roughly 75 degrees Fahrenheit, which is extremely similar to the region's normal outdoor temperature at that time of year. The stadiums will be multi-purpose venues, with final decisions on what to do with each one being made closer to the event.Qatar has declared intentions to create a new metro system as well as a new airport in terms of transportation infrastructure.

Brazil, who are the favorites to win in Qatar . Brazil's roster is loaded with phenomenal play-makers, including Neymar, Casemiro, Fabinho and Vinicius Junior. Brazil is also the most successful national team in the history of the World Cup, having won five titles.
France will be the defending World Cup champions in 2022, and Les Blues will have a good chance of winning again. Les Blues would become the first team to win back-to-back World Cup championships since Brazil in 1958 and 1962 if they win in Qatar. When Didier Deschamps' squad enters the field in late November, it is believed to boast two of the world's most dangerous strikers.
France's offensive arsenal in Qatar will be led by Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappé, who have combined for 52 goals in their respective divisions this season.
Brazil hasn't won the World Cup since 2002, and in 2018 it was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In the later stages of the competition, Brazil may find France, England, or Spain to be too powerful.
