History of Hemp/Cannabis in Malaysia
Did you know that back in the early 1950’s, Sabah, part of North Borneo had already been active in mass production of Hemp Cultivation?
Before the outbreak of WWll, Borneo was divided into 5 territories, 4 of these territories were under British control and one of it was North Borneo.
The area that was involved in Hemp Cultivation activities in North Borneo is Kunak, Sabah, which was previously known as “Mostyn”. It was situated on the south-eastern coast on the road between Tawau and Lahad Datu on it’s way to Sandakan. The process for hemp drying was printed on one of North Borneo stamps back in the late 1940’s.
This profound evidence shows why Western Countries scrambled to colonize Malaysia was known as “Malay Peninsula” at the time for it’s fertile land to start Mass Hemp Cultivation.
