This Day In History; September 19th 1957 and 1995 Underground Nuclear Explosion and the Unabomber’s Manifesto Published Publicly

Many significant things happen daily what will be remembered was only determined by the authorities but thanks to Steemit everything here is recorded history thanks to you authors.

September 19th 1957

The war of the world was long over, really nobody won but there were several clear losers. Even more than a decade after two nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan , ultimately ending the war in Asia and forcing Japan to retreat from China, Korea and other countries still the USA had yet to experiment with underground explosions. I will assume they just didn’t have time or the security as it was a mad dash to end the bloodshed.

You might be asking yourself why would have they even bothered to set a nuke off underground when wars are fought on the surface, at least the lands surface. Well, I’m just here to record some facts on the Steemit blockchain, not interpret it too much so let me just explain the details.

It was during America’s first cold war with the USSR, we are actually in another but it’s being fought through social media rather than with spies and espionage, James Bond type stuff. A war that still has never selected a clear winner. I mean if the USA had won the first cold war why is Russia even in the media these days? Why is Russia such a threat decades later? Well the war just changed battlefields and continues on.

“On this day in 1957, the United States detonates a 1.7 kiloton nuclear weapon in an underground tunnel at the Nevada Test Site (NTS), a 1,375 square mile research center located 65 miles north of Las Vegas. The test, known as Rainier, was the first fully contained underground detonation and produced no radioactive fallout. A modified W-25 warhead weighing 218 pounds and measuring 25.7 inches in diameter and 17.4 inches in length was used for the test. Rainier was part of a series of 29 nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons safety tests known as Operation Plumbbob that were conducted at the NTS between May 28, 1957, and October 7, 1957.”

Well, it seems they’d been testing out nuclear explosion underground for months at the NTS but had yet to make news worthy explosions until this one. Or maybe one big enough to be able to instill fear in their enemy and quite frankly their own citizens. The Russians are coming quick hide behind your bicycle or under your bed.

I won’t drain your eye sight with the dirty details; you read this far because you probably already know what a nuke does. Trust me it only gets worse and the development is not yet over, just cleverer and less likely to harm those in the nearby area (several hundred mile range).

The Unabomber’s manifesto is published to the public for the first time.

Many of you may have heard of who the ”Unibomber” is and maybe even know what he did. He is actually one of Americas biggest anti -establishment terrorists. Like most of America’s terrorist he was locally born and America made him what he turned out to be.

The Unabomber was one of the most clever people in the USA and he saw things most America’s couldn’t at the time, pre-internet and all. He brought a lot of fear to the nation as no one knew when or where he would strike next, which of his country people he would kill next just to get the attention of the government. He was trying to bring attention to his cause and hurt people in the process.

So who the heck was he?
”Theodore John Kaczynski was born May 22, 1942, in Chicago. A talented math student, he entered Harvard University at age 16. In 1967, after receiving a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Kaczynski was hired as an assistant professor at University of California, Berkeley. However, he resigned abruptly in 1969 and eventually began living as a hermit in a small Montana cabin that lacked electricity and running water. Kaczynski received occasional financial support from his family.”

Who were his targets?

"From 1978 to 1995, the Unabomber carried out 16 bombings and mail bombings across the U.S. and became the subject of a massive F.B.I. manhunt. The F.B.I. code named him UNABOM because his targets included universities and airlines. Over the years, his victims included professors, scientists, corporate executives and a computer store owner, among others."

No one could figure out who he was until the papers were published for all to see. All 35,000 words of his anti-techno manifesto were there for all to see. This was the key to his capture after all. His brother recognized the Unabombers style of writing, YES, His Style of writing was the only thing that brought him to justice. Once his brother realized this he contacted the authorities and not long after the Unabomber was taken down.
