"Château-Gaillard Castle. Normandy." France.
These are the remnants of Château-Gaillard castle along the Seine River about 70 miles north of Paris in the town of Les Andelys. The castle was built in 1196 by Richard the Lionheart, Duke of Normandy and King of England. The castle was later conquered by French king Philip Augustus in 1204, returning the region to France.
