The interesting story of Rome.

How true this is I wouldn't know but I would love to believe it!! A mother wolf was trotting along next to a river. She stopped suddenly, ears pricked up. She slowly followed the noise she heard coming from beyond the bushes. She saw two baby boys sitting on the river bank. They were crying because of hunger. When they saw the wolf they crawled to her and put their arms gently around her neck. The mother wolf was pleased with this fearless gesture and then she took the babies to her cave.

She cared for them as tenderly as she would her own cubs. The baby boys were found by a herds man and his wife who took care of them until they could care for themselves. We have no idea who named the boys, but today we know of them as Romulus and Remus. At the place where the babies were found by the wolf, they started a city.

They called their city Rome. According to legend this is how a great city and the capital of Italy emerged. Now how long ago this apparently or at all happened, we do not know. What we do know for sure that the Romans who continued building the city, were as tough and fierce as wolwes. They were great fighters. The soldiers of Rome conquered most of the world that was known at that time. They even conquered the far away land of the Greeks.

What the Romans learned Greece was very impressive to them. Many of their buildings were fashioned after Greek styles. They brought back Greek teachers to teach their children. The Romans used the Greek alphabet and made changes to fit their own language. That is still the alphabet of today that we use.

Rome became the most important city in the world. It ruled over an enormous empire. In the Forum, or center of Rome, laws were set for all the lands that their armies have conquered. The Romans governed well. Many of our laws today are from Roman law.

The Roman's infrastructure was outstanding, with some roads still in use today. That is truly remarkable. Since Rome ruled most of the known world there was not much fighting among countries. The Roman soldiers stopped wars as soon as they started or stopped them
before they started.

Rome's soldiers brought back treasures from all these captured countries. Rome became incredibly wealthy. Some leaders became proud, even cruel. They had great contests between gladiators in the open aired Colosseum. Gladiators fought each other until one was killed. Sometimes lions fought a group of men with a packed Colosseum watching.

It's as if a civilized nation became barbaric due to pride and position. Fortunately not all of them were cruel and haughty. Many good men ruled the empire wisely and fairly. The ruins of many of their buildings and history are evident, although the Roman Empire is no more. It is thought that those treasures they accumulated belong to the Vatican today.

I look at you and know what I see
I look at yesterday and it intrigues me.

A great story of ancient city. I enjoyed reading it. 🐓🐓

I was told the exact story as a youngster.

Refreshed your memory, did I?

wow..beutiful..the best post

Rome is a historic city... Its really interesting and historical story.... I really enjoy to read it...@ruthofisreal

I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

They also adopted the Greek Gods, just giving them different names.
Best thing that could happen to a country was being conquered by Rome, you could keep your Gods, running water to the centre of town, Got rid of Robbers and Brigands , and you could learn to read and write. Enjoyed your Post.

Thank you.

Another thought?, I wonder if this is where the saying, "It's all Greek to me!" originated?

I addition there was a Schoolboy Poem , I read years ago:-

" Latin is a language, as dead, as dead can be!

First it killed the Romans, Now it's killing me!"
