The Jotun from Norse mythology

in #history7 years ago

Hello everyone,

Today I am writing about the Jotun also known as giants from Norse mythology.

These creatures are spiritual beings whose power equals that of the two tribes of gods. Giants are huge, ugly and fierce; they have heads of stone and feet of ice. Many are known for being frost giants. They also could transform themselves into animals, like an eagle or wolf, not to mention, some of myths say they assume shapes resembling normal people or even gods. But some of giants were said to be beautiful and even friendly, especially to gods. They are located in Jotunheim.

The giants are famous for enormous size and also known as devourers constantly trying to drag civilization back to primordial chaos. The Jotun are forces of destructions, entropy and decay. For these simple reasons these creatures are feared, however, it doesn’t mean they are bad or evil. The Jotun also have positive play in universe’s cyclical destiny. This is a good example for whole creation; civilization doesn’t exist in a vacuum, its sustenance depends on the existence of chaotic and wild realms. That contain the resources it requires for its continued existence.

Also interesting thing to mention, the gods themselves are almost all descended from devourers, for example, Odin or Thor. The gods also seek to keep devourers in check so that the cosmos remains in balance.

All in all, giants are the ones that ultimately guarantee the survival of the universe.

Thank you for your time, I hope this post was interesting for you!
