Philippine Currency during Japanese Occupation

in #history5 years ago

The Japanese invasion of the Philippines started on December 8, 1941. Japan's initial attack just hours after the pearl harbor, crippled the american aircraft and naval's artilleries. As our big white brother's (U.S Soldiers) aircraft were severely damage on this attack (as we saw in the movie Pearl Harbor) the U.S asiatic fleet widraw to Java. The Great General McArthur then was ordered out leaving his men defending our islands togehter with the guerillas thus giving birth to the famous phrase "I shall return".

American and Filipino defenders in Bataan surrendered on April 9, 1942, and were forced to endure the infamous "Bataan Death March" on which around 7 to 10 thousand defenders died or were murdered.

During the Japanese Occupation in the Philippine islands that lasted for 3 years, they inforce filipino people to use these currencies instead of the USPI's. Accordingly, those who where caught in possession where murdered or imprisoned with no due process.

Pictures below were fractional notes and a Ten Pesos bill, all part of my recent collection.
