Photos of Istanbul in 1960-70s (Golden Days)
Hi guys hope everyone is doing well, safe and sound!
Today I wanted to share some vintage photos of my hometown with you. Istanbul had a much smaller population back in 1970-80s. Numbers range between about 1.500.000 and 2.750.000 The city had a notable change in its image as well. Back in those days, the city was home to much larger green areas and more parks. The urban transformation was not a subject, and the buildings looked more natural and prettier. They supported the historical look of the metropolis. Moreover, there were more local "Istanbulians". Istanbul born and raised people are provenly considered more secular, contemporary, open-minded, and terrifically noble. As years passed by, popularity and rising industrialism of the city influenced many hopeful young generations from other cities of Turkey(mostly Eastern) to move to Istanbul, who carried the anticipation of having a better life, earning good and finding more opportunities, so, therefore, population growth went up rapidly. Not only those people who were misdirected or deluded have played a role in that but also the nature of being a metropolis and basically possessing everything did not help.
Bad planning, vicious managements simply started affecting the shape of the city, major green areas turned into an improper designation and arrangement of structures. In particular, the Asian side of the city got heavily impacted by the wrong decisions that were products of manipulations, that had helped officials do corruptions through.
Despite all of that, I still, sincerely think that Istanbul is a very fantastic city, regardless of the negative change it has been through.
Here you have the photos, enjoy!
Hope you enjoyed this precious city's photos! See you in the next post!
