Thank you for reading! I don't doubt it. It was probably much easier to disappear, forge documents, or change your identity back then. There were hundreds of lesser known royal family members during the last days of the Russian monarchy so it's not like it was that far fetched that a super rich lady in New York's high society would have been a princess from some random branch of the family tree. That being said, I know a woman in present day who pretends to be from a different country and speaks with a fake accent, and she managed to convince her own roommates of that for like a year, so even with Google it's totally possible if you're batshit enough.
Ha! That lady sounds like good material for future posts.
